CONNECTING GUIDE REIN B STRAP.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MEINER C. Monk, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hector, in the county of Renville and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Connecting Guide Rein or Strap; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a new and useful improved connecting guide rein or strap.

An object of the invention is the provision of a device of this design for connecting a plurality of horses, say for instance four or more, so as to easily guide them when hitched to a vehicle.

The foregoing device is so constructed that when a pulling action is exerted upon one or the other of the outer horses, in order to guide them to the right or left, the pulling action is transferred to the opposite outer horse, without materially transferring the pulling action to the intermediate horses. In other words, the pull for guiding the outer horses in one direction or the other is direct, from one outer horse to the other. Furthermore, a portion of the connecting guide reins or straps may be used as a. hitch ing device, as shown in one of the views of the drawing.

In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in plan showing the construction and arrangement of the connecting guide rein or strap connected to four bits. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through a portion of said connection. Fig. 3 is a view of the bit 2 as applied to a horses mouth.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 1, 2, and 4 designate four bits. Connected to the ring 5 of the bit 1 is a snap hook 6, to which the loop 7 of the strap 8 is connected, there being a buckle 9 and the slides 10, for holding the loop as shown in Fig. 1. This strap at the opposite end is Specification of Letters Patent.

likewise constructed and connected to the ring 11 of the bit 4:. However, the strap 8 intermediate the bits 1 and 4C is constructed to form loops 12 and-13, and 14 and 15. which connect to the snap hook 16 and 17 and 18 and 19, which in turn connect to the rings 20 and 21 of the bits 2 and 3. The loops 12 and '13, and 14; and 15 are held in their loop arrangement, by means of the buckles 22, 23, 2 1 and 25 and the slide 26. Connected to the rings 28 and 29 of the bits 1 and a are the usual guide or check reins 30 and 31. When a pulling action is imparted on the reins 30, it is transmitted di rectly to the bit 4-, without affecting or pulling upon the bit 2 and 3, and this is on account of the arrangement and provision of the parts 32 and 33 of the strap 8, and it will be seen that the pull is direct from the part 3 1 to the part 35, which pull is transmitted by the part 32, without affecting the bit 2 in any manner, with the exception that the loops are pressed against the opposite sides of the animals lower jaw, so as to hold him firm. The buckles, 22, 23, 24 and 25 are constructed with lugs 36 to prevent the loop from displacement relative to the buckle. When a pulling action is imparted upon the guide rein 31, it is transmitted directly from the bit at to the bit 1.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is In improvements in a guiding connection, the combination of the single strap arranged for connecting four or more animals abreast, each end of said strap having connections to each outer animal, the intermediate portion of the strap having formed therein pairs of loops having snap hooks for connection to the bits of the intermediate animals, means for holding the loops so constructed, and a connector between the loops of each pair, thereby constituting means to permit the guiding pull to be transmitted directly from one outer animal to the opposite outer animal.
