To all 'tU/LOTTb it may concern Be it known that I, CALVIN F. Cirrusrorrrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Asheville, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Dinner-Pail, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to dinner pails, its object being to provide a novel arrange mentof compartments formed within sections which are movably connected so that, when the pail is opened, the said movable sections can be shifted to positions where the contents thereof are readily accessible.

A further object is to provide a device which, when closed, presents a neat appearance and is compact.

A further object is to provide means whereby the drinking cup, which is mounted on the pail, will cooperate with members on the pail for holding said pail inclosed position.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the pail opened out for use, Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the pail when opened. Fig. 4 is a central transverse section through the pail when closed. Fig. 5 is a similar section through the pail when opened.

Referring to the elements of the structure by characters of reference 1 designates the box-like body of the pail, the same being divided into any desired number of com partments. Holding frames 2 are pivotally connected, as at 3, to the ends of this body and are preferably formed of broad strips of metal adapted to contact when said frames are swung to active position, as shown in Fig, 1; Each of the holding Specification of Letters Patent.

frames includes a retaining flange 4 extending along the outer side thereof. Ears 5 are extended upwardly from one of the frames and a bail 6 is connected to these ears. Semi-cylindrical cup engaging members 7 extend upwardly from the two frames 2 at the centers of their upper meeting edges and are adapted, when the holding frames are in active positions, to lie close together so as to project into and fit snugly within a drinking cup such as shown at 8.

A leaf 9 is hingedly connected to the top of body 1 at one side thereof, as shown at 10 and this leaf extends throughout the length of the body. The width of the leaf is equal to about one-half the width of the body 1 and that edge of the leaf remote from the hinges 10 is hingedly connected, as at 11, to the center of the bottom of a top tray 12. This tray may be divided into any desired number of compartments and is provided, at one side with an integral leg 13 the length of which is substantially equal to the height of body 1.

From the foregoing description it will be apparent that, when it is desired to open the pail, the holding frames 2 which are extended over the tray 12, are swung outwardly and downwardly so that their retaining flanges 4 will rest on the table or other structure on which the pail is placed. This movement of the frames 2 cannot be effected, however. until after the cup 8 has been lifted off of the projections 7. After the frames 2 have been swung outwardly and downwardly, tray 12 is raised and shifted laterally so as to cause the leaf 9 to swing about its hinges 10. Thus tray 12 will be brought to the position shown in Fig. 3 and with the leg 13 extending into one of the frames 2 and bearing on the flange 4 of said frame. With the parts thus positioned it will be seen that all of the contents of the pail can be readily reached. When it is clesired to close the pail, the foregoing operation is reversed and, after the cup 8 has been placed on the projections 7 it will be seen that the various parts of the pail will be held securely closed.
