W""*'IIIIIM f "IN mm CHARLES L. DEPOLLIER,
OF NEW YORK N. Y.
DETACI-IABLE STRAP TERMINAL AND HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 1'7, 1913.
Patented Mar. 17, 1914:. SeriaI No. 768,358.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES L. DnroLLrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Strap Terminals and Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
Hy invention in detachable strap terminals and hooks, relates more particularly to the catches of bracelets of the character known as watch-bracelets, and constructed, generally, of straps, which are adapted to be buckled around the wrist of the wearer, for securing thereto, a watch holder, watch alone, or other similar article of jewelry.
In this connection, my invention is clirected to the interchangeability, which is afforded by the introduction of a convertable strap terminal, and to this end, I have devised a novel form of detachable strap terminal and hook, combined with a guard for the hook point, whereby substitutions for different forms and designs, as well as colors of straps for these forms of watchbracelets may be made with facility, and the object of my invention is to provide for strap terminals of bracelets, a simple and inexpensive type of detachable hook, combined with security, and ease of manipulation. These objects I attain by the con struction, as illustrated in the drawings hereto attached and forming part of this specification, when taken with the correlative appended descriptive matter, and the features of novelty I have referred to in the claims atthe conclusion of the specification.
ll ith reference to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my improved detachable strap terminal and hook, a applied to the end of a bracelet strap. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevational view thereof, taken on the line 2-:2 of Fig. l, as indicated by the darts, and Fig. 3 is a rear plan view thereof, with a section of the casing and strap removed, in order to elucidate the means for fastening the several elements together.
In these figures, similar characters of reference refer to like, or the same parts, wherein,
1 designates the strap box, or body portion, which has a longitudinally curved bottom 2. The bottom 2 has integrally bent and perpendicularly disposed outer walls 8. These have a parallel portion l and a converging portion 5. One end of the bottom 2 extends beyond the walls 3, and parallel portions l, to form a lip 6, and the opposite end of the bottom 2 has a similar extenslon, and an integrally formed, and up wardly turned and bent over hook 7. This overlaps the upper side of the strap box 1, and extends longitudinally thereover, and termmates in a point or hill 8. 9 designates the strap, having its terminal cut and formed, to fit within the body 1 and lie within the box or strap terminal, as will be more fully hereinafter explained.
10 refers to the cover plate. which is provided with laterally spaced integral walls 11, formed to correspond to and interfit with the walls 3 of the body 1, and to leave a shoulder 12 on each side, to abut with the free edges of the walls 3. The strap terminal, designated 13 is fitted between the walls 11, in such a manner as to leave a verti cal edge portion 1a on opposite sides, whereby, when the cover plate 10 is placed in position, to cover the body 1, and the strap 9 has lts terminal 13 thrust between the walls 11, the vertical edge portion 14 will be brought into contact with the ends of the walls l, as well as with the corresponding end of the walls 11.
To secure the cover plate 10, strap 9, and body or box 1 together, pins or screws 15 are passed through the structure transversely, adjacent to the ends of the walls 4 and 5, and provide an expedient for facili tatmg the removal of the strap 9 from the strap terminal and hook.
Integrally formed with, and transversely disposed on the outer surface of the cover plate 10, is a guard 16, having a center notch 17, or pocket, adjacent to the bill 8 of the hook 7.
l/Vhen the catch-hook and strap terminal presented, is in use, the bill 8 of the hook 7 lies in contact with the flesh of the wearer, in order to afford security to an interlocked ring or eye, with which the hook 7 is engaged, against the dislodgment thereof. To obviate disagreeable pressure of the bill 8 against the skin of the wearer, the guard 16 having a somewhat greater surface, is seated against the flesh and obviates the bill 8 from digging in. Moreover, the guard 16 fulfils the otlice of checking the accidental unhooking of the ring or other member with which the hook 7 is engaged. Due to a limited amount of elasticity, of the book 7,
any article which is to be engaged with it is afforded entrance under the lip 8 by virtue of the notch or pocket 17 and a limited amount of yield of the bill 8 by virtue of said elasticity.
It will be observed by the preceding description of my invention, that I have devised a detachable strap terminal and hook, conducive to simplicity of construction, variety in design, interchangeability and substitution of parts, and one which affords the necessary security against accidental displacement, of an element with which it is engaged; and
'Having fully described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the U. S.
1. A detachable strap terminal comprising a box or body portion having lateral integrally formed outer walls, each wall eonerging at its forward end, and an integral hook formed on the forward end, said hook being upwardly turned and bent over inwardly to overlap the upper side of said box, a cover having integral downwardly extended side portions adapted to fit within the box and provided with an integral transversely disposed guard having a notch or pocket at its central portion, and securing pins adapted to pass transversely through the side walls of the box and cover and through the end portion of a strap for securely fastening the strap to the said box and cover.
2. A detachable strap terminal comprising a box or body portion having integrally formed outer walls, and an integral hook formed on its forward end, said hook being upwardly turned and bent over inwardly to overlap the upper side of said box, the rear lower end portion of the box terminating with an extended lip portion, a cover having integral downwardly extended side portions adapted to interfit with the walls of said box and provided with an integral transversely disposed guard on its upper portion having a notch or pocket at its central portion, and securing pins adapted to pass transversely through the box and cover and through the end portion of a strap for securely fastening the strap to the said box and cover, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
