Letters Patent No. "108,891, dated November 1, 1.870.
Mor-# IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-CUTTlNG-MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent vand making part of the same.
Nature and Ubjcet of the Invention. l
The nature of our invention consists in combining a, series of revolving stripping-shears with a second sev ries of revolving cutting-ot? shears, the two series being set at right angles to each other; also, in the combination of the mechanical devices for operating the saine.
Drawing.
Figure 1 is a 'perspective view ot' our machine Figure 2 is a plan of the saine. l
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical section.
General Description.`
G represents the main or driving-shaft, from 4which motion is communicated to all parts of the machine.
The shaft Q, has a crank, fr, shown in iig. 1, which, operating in the slot ofthe lever n, as shown in iig. 1, serves to communicate a reciprocatingl motion to the 'rack fr. 4
The motion ot this rack x operating through the gears y y y y' serves to revolve the'transverse or feeding-roller z z s.
The cam H ou the shaft H aetuates the levers I I, which give' a reciprocating motion to the cari-ingest'y 1'-, iu which the shafts L L L L are hung.
lhese shafts. carry the'cutters l Z l Land are actuated by the pinions' 7; J, which traverse upon the ixed double ratchet K, as shown in g. 1.
l '.L" are revolving shears on shafts t t, which serve I to strip the card or paper, and maybe actuated by a belt, as shown in g. 3.
N N, ligs. 1. and 3, are cams attached to the shaft H, which1 operating through the lever u a, arms m m,
sequent gears M M, pini'onsY p11, and shafts P, serveregive vibratory motion to the fliers p' 1J', shown more Y plainly in fig. 2. g
C is a feeding-in table'. I) is `one of the side or delivery-tables. The operation of my machine is 'as follows: With a machine constructed as shown in the drawing, a sheet of card-board'being` fed in over the table C would be divided by the cutter T T', iig. 2, into three strips. Thcse'three strips passing in through the feedrollers z a would each be cut hy the two sets of eut- Iters l Z l Z into three pieces, makingnine in all. This'` is done by the direct motion of the rollers zz z z.
Now, by the action of the lever uand ratchet :v the.
revolution of these rollers is reversed, and the cards are sent back onto the iers pp' p', the action of which 'is so timed as .to tlrow out the cards .upon the side tables D.
The number of sets of cutters may be varied at pieas" ure, so that the card-board maybe cut into any desired number of pieces.
We claim as ourinveution forth. f
