RADE JAVORINA, 0F REMBRANDT, IOWA.
RAIL-BRACE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, RADE JAVORINA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rembrandt, in the county of Buena Vista and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rail-Braces, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in rail braces, and has for its object to provide a brace and a tie plate composed of a single member.
IVith the above and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing: Figure l is a longitudinal sectional View showing my invention applied, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improved brace and tie plate, Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line -m of Fig. 2, Fig. 4 is a bot-tom plan view of the improvement, and Fig. 5 is a view of the blank from which the improvement is constructed.
As shown in Fig. 5, the improvement is constructed from a single plate of suitable metal, and includes what I will term a base member 1 which is of a substantially7 rectangular formation, and which has the edges of its rail engaging extension 2 beveled from its outer end toward the base 1, the said beveled edges slitting a portion of the base l to provide the corners of the said base with bendable members which are adapted to be arranged at a right angle to the said base to provide spurs or teeth 3. The base engaging member 2 is bent at a suitable distance from the rear of the base l upon itself to t-he rail base engaging flange L and the end of said flange is further bent at an angle and adapted to have its upper edge contact with the rail R at the juncture of its web and head, the base l being provided with openings 5, the said openings being formed by a suitable instrument that passes through the base and causes the metal of the base to surround the openings, thus providing the said base with additional spurs or tie entering members 6 which when the spikes 7 are inserted through the open- 1 ings 5 force the said members 6 to wit-hin the ties around the openings, the spikes 7 engaging with the longitudinal edge of the Specification of Letters Patent.

base flange of the rail. The spurs 3 are also forced within the tie when the device is applied upon the said tie.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device, as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to .which such inventions appertain without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
l. In a rail brace, a plate adapted to receive a rail thereon, said plate having an eX- tension, the edges of which being disposed angularly of the longitudinal edges of t-he plate and partially entering the plate to provide the said plate with bendable spurs, the extension of the plate being bent to form an overlying base ange engaging member and an extension therefor which engages within the fishing space upon one side of the rail and contacts with the rail at the juncture of its head and web, the spurs adapted to be inserted within a tie, and spikes adapted to pass through the plate to within the tie and to engage with the free longitudinal edge of the rail.
2. In a rail brace, a plate adapted to receive a rail thereon, said plate having an extension, the edges of which being disposed angularly of the longitudinal edges of the plate and partially entering the plate to provide the said plate with bendable spurs, the extension of the plate being bent to form an overlying base flange engaging member and an extension therefor which engages within RADE JAVORINA.
