To all whom it mag concern:-

Be it known that I, JOHAN ABRAHAM OHLSSON, a subject of the King of Sweden, and resident of Tegnrgatan 45, Stockholm, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a -specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to improvements in safety razors of that class, in which the blade has an oblique edge or converging edges and is adjustable with relation to the correspondingly shaped uard, so that the action of the razor can e adapted to different kindsof bristles. According to this invention the holder for the said blade,

when having converging edges, is provided with a longitudinal recess in which the blade and the guard, each provided with a longitudinal slot, are inserted, the said plan View of a safety razor blade and guard embracing a guide for the, same, provided in the holder between the Walls of therecess. If thev blade has only one cutting edge, the guide is located at one edge of the holder and the slots in the blade and guard for engaging the guide are formed by hooKs on the back edges of the blade and guard In consequenceof the said arrangements the construction of the safety razor, 2'. e., the blade, the guard and the holder, is very simple and after the shaving operation has been finished, the razor can easily be cleaned, the cleaning operation being confined to the blade and the holder, while the guard, if made of paste- 1 board or any other cheap material, may

be thrown away. According to a modified form of the invention the holder is provided with two recesses, one for the blade and one for the guard.

A safety razorprovided with two converging edges and arranged in accordance with this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in aside view in Figure land in a plan view in Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is a side view and Fig. 4 is an end view, of the holder. Figs. 5 and 6 are a plan view of the guard and the blade respectively. Fig. 7 shows a modification. Fig. 8' is a arranged in accordance with this invention and with the blade provided with only one, oblique edge. Fig. 9 is a section on the line 9 to 9 of Fig. 8. Figs. 10 and 11 show the blade and the guard respectively.

The guard 8, seealso Fi 5,-oonsists of a flat piece preferably of t in,-stiif pasteboard or any other suitable cheapmaterial but may be made of sheet metal, celluloid ebonite or the like. The edges of the said guard 8 convergein the same or substantially the same degree as the edges 6, 6 of the blade -5 and are provided with teeth 9, which, in the well known manner, have a protecting action during the shaving operation. The said guard has a longitudinal, central slot 10, so that the guard can be pushed into the recess 3 of the holder 1,- embracing the part 4 of the same and the portions located on opposite sides of the slot 10, as shown in Fig. 2. I

The blade 5 and the guard Bare pushed into the recess 3, until the bottom wall of :the slots 7 and 10 respectively bears against the outer end of the part 4. The edges. 6, .6 of the blade 5 are then parallel or substantially parallel to the toothed edges of the guard 8 and located at some distance inside the same. The width of the recess 3, is'so determined that the blade 5 and the guard 8 are held in the holder by their friction with the side walls of the grooves. When the safety razor is used, thedistance between the edges 6, 6 of the blade and the free ends of the protecting teeth 9 can be changed by moving the blade 5 or the guard 8 for a short distance from the position shown in Fig. 2, and the razor thus be adapted to the sensibility of the skin and to coarser or finer bristles. During the shaving operation all or substantially all the lather and the bristles shaved ofi' will gather on the guard 8, which is then removed from the holder and cleaned. Consethe razor, which is confined chiefly. to the guard, can easily be effected, and if the guard is made of pasteboard or any similar cheap material, it may be thrown away, so that only the blade and holder need be cleaned. After -the guard has ben removed, the blade can be sharpene or stropped while being located in the holder. The edges 11, 11 of the holder converge in the same or substantially the same degree as the edges of the blade, so that, the holder serves as a guide during the sharpening or stropping operation by being held in contact with the strop. Owing to the fact that the blade and the guard are lockedto the holder only by the friction between the said partsfno-screw's or similar means are necessary for the said purpose, which can be lost and thus render the razor unfit for use, until fresh screws, etc., have been procured.
