DIS'QI-LLING APPARATUS Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 39, 1913 Application filed February 24. 1912. Serial No. 679,610.
To all whom it may concern Be it. known that I, JAMEs A. HoUsnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at lilarion, in the county of Grant and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Distilling Apparatus, of which the following is a, specification.
This invention relates to generators for the production of a medicament by heating a liquid or semi-liquid material containing water in the presence of air, the resultant product being designed for the successful treatment of such conditions as indicate slu-ggishness or decay, namely, paralysis, tuberculosis, epilepsy, diabetes, etc.
The primary object of the invention is to produce an apparatus in the form of a generator which will carry out the necessary process, and arrive at the desired product in a simple and expeditious manner.
Yi ith the above and other ObJQCtS in view,
the invention consists in the construction,
combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete apparatus, embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the generator tank, which is preferably of cylindrical form, and is, in fact, a retort or heater, any suitable heating device being adapted to be placed beneath the same. The generator 1 is provided in one side witha hand hole, over which is placed av hand-hole cover 2 for giving access to the interior of the generator or retort, when it becomes necessary to clean the same. The generator is also provided with a drain cock 3 in the bottom thereof, a water level gage t arranged at one side thereof, and a relief valve 5 in the top thereof. The generator is also provided with a steam gage 6 to indicate the steam pressure therein.
At one side of the generator, there is arranged cooling tank Y, in which is a condenser coil 8, which is fed by a pipe 9 leading from the upper part of the generator 1,
as shown. The cooling tank is supported at a suitable elevation by legs 10, and provided in the bottom thereof with a suitable dis- .charge pipe 11 leading to a receptacle 12 thereto. At its upper end, above the generator, the shaft 13 is provided with a. bevel gear 15 which is driven by a corresponding bevel gear 16 on ashaft 17 mounted in bearings 18 on the top of the generator, the shaft 17 being provided with a band pullev 19, to which mot-ion is imparted by a belt 20 passing over an overhead pulley 21. The pulley 21 is mounted on a shaft 22 provided with a crank 23, from which a pump rod 2 extends downwardly to an air compressor or pump 25 which is fed by an air inlet pipe 26, preferably extending through the roof of the building in which the generator is located, the air passing from the pump 25 through a connection 27 into the bottom of the generator 1.
The menstruum may consist of any muci laginous agent, such as water plants or slippery elm, which yield products having valuable properties for the purposes specified.
What is claimed is;
1. The combination of a still provided with a pipe leading to a condenser, a pressure regulating valve located in said pipe, said still'bei'ng provided with a relief Valve,
- and means for positively introducing a. gas
under pressure into the bottom part of said still. 2. Therombination of a still provided with a pipe leading to a condenser, a regulating valve located in said pipe, said still being provided with a relief valve, and a piston pump capable of positively introducingair under pressure into the lower portibn 5 pressure inio said still, at a point near the of said still. boitom thereof. 1 3. The combination Of a still provided In testimony whereof I afiix my signature with a shying device and also provided in presence of two Witnesses. 5 with a pipe leading to a condenser, 51 regu- JAMES A. HOUSER.
iating valve located in said pipe, said still 1 Witnesses:
being provided with a rglief valve, and HENRY J. PAULUS, means or positively introducing an under I TONY GEORGE.
