UNITED strains PATENT enrich...v
ALFOINSD 011.101 0.5 BALANGA, I H ILIPPINE ISLANDS.
' Jonrr ADJUSTABLE Heisman.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFONSO ORIOL, asubject of the United States, residing at town of Balanga, Bataan Province, Philippine Islands, have invented a new and useful Joint Adjustable Handle; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful improved jointed adjustable handle, adapted for use in connection with various tools, such as monkey wrenches, pipe wrenches, screw drivers and the like.
An object of the invention is the provision of a handle that may be turned or adjusted at right angles to the tool, as shown in Figure 1, whereby a cranking motion may be imparted to the tool, for applying or-removing a nut.
A feature of the invention is the provision of an apertured lug at one end of the tool and provided with a recess adjoining said lug, in combination with a handle bifurcated at one end to receive the apertured lug, which bifurcated end is provided with notches to receive lugs of a transverse pin,
Which is mounted in said recess of the tool,
there beinga spring to hold' the lugs-of the pin in the notches of the bifurcated end of the handle. p In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled,- provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 1s a view showing the application of the improved jointed handle, as applied to a wrench, Fig. 2 is a plan view of a portion of any suitable tool, such as the wrench, showing the jointed tool as applied. Fig. 3 is a. sectional View partly in elevation.v Fig. 4 is. a detail view of one end of the tool showing the apertured Fig. 5 is a detail view of one end of. the handle showing the'bifurcated, portion with the notches. Fig. 6 is a detail view of the transversely disposed in.
Referring more particu arly to the draw: ings, l designates a tool, one end ofwhich is provided with a reduced apertured lug 2 Specification of Letters Patent.

in the tool adjoining the notch 3. The handle 5 at one end is provided with a bi furcation 6 to receive the lug 2, the e being a screw bolt 7 passing through the lugs 8 and 9 (between which the bifurcation 6 is formed) and the lug 2, thereby,
connecting the handle 5 to'the tool. The
lugs 8 and 9 are provided with a series of notches 10, any two opposite notches of which receive the lugs 11 and 12 of the pin 13, which is arranged in the recess 4, there being a spring 14; interposed between the shoulder 15 of the pin 13 and the shoulder 16'at one end of the recess 4, which spring holds the pin 13 in a position as shown in Fig.3, with the lugs 11 and 12 in engage ment' with any two opposite notches 10- The object in providing the notch 3 is to afford suitable means to receive the lug 12, when the pin 13 is depressed to remove the lugs 11 and 12 from the notches 10, when the handle 5 is being adjusted. The pin 7' 1s threaded into the lug 9. By depressing the pin 13, the handle 5 may be adjusted, at various angles or positions relative to the tool, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The lnvention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In combination, a tool, one end of which is provided with an apertured lug having a notch, said handle end having a recess adjoining the notch and provided with a shoulder at one, end, a handle having a. bifurcated end to receive the apertured lug of the tool, means penetrating the bifurcated end and the lug to connect the handle to the tool, a pin extending transversely of the tool and arrangedin said recess-and provided with a shoulder at one end, a spring interposed between the shoulder of the pin and the shoulder of the re-- cess, and holding connections between the transversely disposed pin and the bifurcated end of the handle for locking the handle in various adjusted positions.
2. In combination, a tool, one end of which is provided with an apertured lug having a notch, said handle end having a recess adjoining the notch and'provi ed with a shoulder at one end, a handle havijg lug of the tool, means penetrating. the bifurcated end and the lug'to connect the bane dle to the tool, a pinextending transversely of the tool and arranged in said recess and provided with a shoulder at one end, a
