Description
GEORGE WRIGHT, OF SAVANNAH, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 107,991, dated October 4, 1870.
I, GEORGE WRIGHT, of Savannah, in the county of Andrew and State of Missouri, have invented certain Improvements in Washing- Machines, of which the following is a specififca'tion Figure 1 is a vertical section, and. Fig. 2 is a plan View, of the'invention.
This invention consists of a hollow cylinder for holding clothes, to be constructed of sheet metal or other suitable material, and mounted on trunnions within and crosswise of an inclosing-case containing water, said cylinder having across its rim rows of orifices, atransverse hood being attached to the rim outside each alternate row of orifices, in which hoods water being collected is forced through the orifices into the cylinder, the orifices that are between the hoods affording the water means of egress. Transverse bars, triangular in cross-section, are attached to the inside of the rim between the rows of orifices, and serving to produce friction as the clothes are dashed past them, and thus to more thoroughly cleanse the fabrics. The cylinder is provided with a crank, by which it is rotated, said crank pass ing through the inclosing-case.
In the drawing, A is the inclosing-case; a, the cylinder, which is made in two parts, that are hinged together, the upper part serving as a cover to the lower. 1) are the transverse rows of holes through the rim of the cylinder 0, the transverse hoods; d, the transverse in terior bars or flanges.
I claim as my invention- The cylinder a, provided with the rows 1) of orifices, the external hoods arranged over alternate rows of the orifices, and the internal 'flanges placed between the rows of orifices,
all constructed and arranged as described.
GEORGE WRIGHT.
