Description

W. R. STEVENS.
GLOSURE FASTENING DEVICE.
APPLIUATION FILED JAN.15, 1912.
Patented Nov. 25, 1913.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARD ROSS STEVENS, OF BUB/BANK, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES DANIEL REASER, OF BUB/BANK, CALIFORNIA.
CLOSURE-FASTENING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1913.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WARD Ross STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burbank, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Closure-Fastening Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a closure fastening device especially adapted for steam cookers in which the cooking is done under pressure, and the main object of the invention is to provide for instantly unfastening the cover to open the cooker for the insert-ion or removal of things being cooked, and to enable the cover to be instantly locked and closed.
The main object is to provide for instantly unfastening the cover to open the cooker for the insertion or removal of things being cooked, or to instantly lock the same.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention as applied to a steam cooker with the boiler in section. Fig. 2 is a front elevation on an enlarged scale of one of the cooking units. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the cooking units with part of the ligure broken away. Fig. l'
is a plan view of the outer portion of one of the cooking units.
At the front end of the shell is a cover 4: hinged at 5. I provide means for quickly locking or unlocking the cover which is so constructed that when the cover is locked, it will press tightly against the end of the shell and prevent any leakage of steam. Projecting from the front face of the cover is a threaded stud 6 on which is a nut 7 Pivoted to the nut 7 is a cam S operated by hand lever 9. The cam 8 is adapted to bear agalnst a pair of bars 10, each bar acting as a link to pivotally connect two clamping rods 11. The outer ends of the clamping rods 11 are pivotally supported in lugs 12 which project from the shell 2. By swinging the hand lever 9 up into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5, the cam 8 would release the bars 10, whereupon the links 11 and bars 10 may be swung outwardly to freely clear the hand lever 9 and cam 8, and the cover may then be swung out into open position. In closing the cover, the cover is rst moved against the shell, then the clamping rods 11 are swung in and then the handle 9 is turned to bring the cam 8 over the bars 10, and then the hand' lever 9 is pushed down to clamp the cam 8 against the bars 10.
What I claim is:
. In a steam coo-ker, the combination of a cover, bars at one end pivotally connected with the unit, said bars bearing against the outer face of said cover, a cam pivotally supported by the cover, and means connected to the inner ends of said bars against which said cam operates to force said bars against the outer face of said cover and clamp the cover against the unit.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 8th day of January, 1912.
' WARD .ROSS STEVENS.
In presence of- G. T. HAGKLEY, GLADYS RUSSELL.
