To all-'whom t may concern.' 0 Be it known that I, ADOLF MAUEER, a citii zen of the Swiss Re `ublic, residing at Olten,
in the Republic o Switzerland, have invented a new and useful Improved Process for Securing or Fixing Machines and other Objects to Floors and other Places, of which the following is a specification.
In securing or fixing heavy machines, parts ofthesame and other objects to the ioor by means of a lfusible composition and intermediate sheets or plates of a porous nature, gums or resins have been found suitvable as a composition therefor. It has been ascertainedthat the connection between the machines and the Hoor or foundation becomes Specially intimate and firm when resinous mixtures are used with special additional materials. These latter have for object, according to Lthis present invention, to eat into or etch into the metallic bedplate or bottom of the machine as well as into the floor or foundation material such for instance as stone, mortar or wood, that is to say to render the surfaces of the p arts to be united rough or so to say porous, in order that the fusible composition. may unite with them in a more intimate manner. They are only to act in the heat as long as the resinous fixingcompound is still Huid. Chlorid of iron and chlorid of magnesium are examples of suitable additions to the resinous mixtures. For the latter only such are used which remain solid (do not melt) at the temperature in the workshops. The corrosive is added to the rosi-n preferably in the form of a ldilute aqueous solution in about the proportion of from five toD twelve per cent., according to the nature of" the bodies to be united, but it will, of coursebe understood that these proportions may be slightly deviated from. The fixing compound is heated to at least 70 C. in order to further the etching action. After the compound has been melted the etching action of the additional materials takes effect, and in the measure as thereby uneven places and recesses are formed they will be `filled with the hot liquid resinous compound. The bottom or bed plate of the machine will thus be firmly secured to the floor. The remainder of the etching materials which have not been consumed bythe heating and fixing are surrounded air-tight and water-tight by the resinous compound when the latter solidifies, and in this manner all further' disintegration or action lof these materials upon the adjoining parts of machinery or building is rendered impossible. It has furthermore been found advantageous in the aforesaid xing process that the porous intermediate sheets or plates have a rough surface and be permeated with an impregnating material. An impregnation with parain yhas fo-r instance the special effect that no materials enter the Sheet of felt and the elasticity of the latter is thus maintained undiminished. This impregnation also keeps the acid vapors which are developed by the heat in the molten compound, away from the felt.
The invention is disclosed by way of illustration in the accompanying drawing wherein a designates a part of the machine to be secured, and b the supporting foundation having a flooring f. The interposed sheet of felt or other porous and elastic material is indicated by c, and the cementitious substance, within which is incorporated the etching element, is denoted by 0 and cl.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. AL binder for securing solid bodies tol gether comprising, a sheet interposed between said bodies; a cementitious substance;
and an etching element incorporated in said substance for the purpose set forth.
2. A binder for securing solid bodies together comprising, a'porous sheet interposed between said bodies; a cementitious substance applied while in a'molten state; and an etching element incorporated in said substance for the purpose set forth.
3. A binder for securing solid bodies together comprising, one or more sheets of elastic material interposed between said bodies; a cementitious substance applied while in a molten state to the contacting surfaces of said bodies and interposed material; and an etching element incorporated in said substance for the purpose set forth.
