In a valve gearhaving reversing means, ,a combination leverfhaving a'slot, a valve stem, means slidably disposed in the'slot for operating thel valve stem, a radius rod articulated to the combination lever, means for operatingl the radius rod, a cross head link Iarticulated to the combination lever and adapted to be articulated to a cross head arm, and means operable independently of the reversing means for moving the combination lever to change the lead. l'

In a valve gear, a combination lever, a valve stem, means by which the combination lever is adapted to operate the valve stem, a radius rod articulated to the combination s lever, means for operating the radius rod, a cross head link articulated to the combination lever and adapted to be articulated to a cross head arm, and a. link articulated to the combination lever for. moving the combination lever independently of the means for l operating the'radius rod.
