BOTTLE-STOPPER.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled April 25, 15H3.' Serial No. 763,034..
To all @elim/t 'it may (fonce/11.
lle it known that 1,Aoous'r ltomiwrrn, a citizen of. the United St-ates,residing at Green Lake, in the eounty of Green Lake and State of lViseonsin, have invented eerrtain new and useful Improvemtmt's in Bot-` tle-Stoppers; and l do hereby declare the followingr to be a iull, clear, and exact. description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains tol make and use the same.
'ihis invention relates to new anduset'ul improvements in bottle Stoppers, and has `for its object to provide :i disk stopper which may be easily and' quicklyremoved from its position in a bottle.
Another object ot my invention is to pro vide a device ol" the above character which will permit` the removal of such stoppers without the necessity of inserting a sharp instrument or the like into the stopper.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a bottle stopper which. may be easily removed and at no time will the opertitofs hands or fingers come in Contact with the contents 'of the bottle.
ll/'ith the above and other objeets in view, I will now proceed' to describe my inven` tion in the followingi specification and nef eompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a sectional View of a trag- 'ment of a bottle, showing my improved stopper in platee and in position to be removed; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my improved bottle stopper; and Fig. 3 is an edge view of my improved bottle stopper.
Referring to the drawings by characters ot reference, 5 indicates the usual neck ot' a milk bottle, having torn-led at its upper extremity the usual bead t5 and the shoulder 7, apjainstwhieh the edge` of the stopper is adapted to seat.
My improved bottle stopper preferably'l the weakened portions 11eaused by the.
slits coming near the periphery will bend, aS
is clearly illustrated in Fig.' 1, and the portion ol the stopper interniediate the outer extremity ol. the tongue-and the periphery ot the body portion will bend upwardly and permit the thumb ot' the operator to be sorted therein. i
ln order to provide a means whereby the bottle .stopperI may be inserted without beroming;l bent, as shown in' Fig. l, Vl. prefer# ably provide a ligament l2, which connects the inner extremity of the tongue with the body portion 8 of the bottle stopper, as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2.
ln placing my improved bottle stopper in position, it is 'forced inwardly in the same manner as those'in .use at the present time` but when it is desired to remove said stop-l per the ligament l2 is broken und the end ot' the tongue l() pressed downwardly, wllieh will canse the portion ll intermediate the tongue l0 and the periphery ot the body portion 8 to bend which will cause the portion:intermediate the outer extremity oth the tongue l0 and the periphery ot' the body portion to rise, thus permitting the operotor to insert the point ot his thumb between the bead t3 on the bottle und the raised porltion o't-the bottlestopper, and lwill 'ne seen that at no time does the operatos hand como in contact with the rontents of the bottle so that at all times sanitation 'is insured.
`lVliile in the foregoing l have shown and described the preferred en'il'mdimont oi my invention, l wish it to be understotfid that l may ehange the specific arrangeinei'its ot partel without in any way departing from the spirit and scope 4of my invention.
lfl'avinfi;v fully described my invention what I-claim is:f
1. .ti bottle stopper comprisingA a circular body portion, said cireular body portion having segmental slits adjacent its edge, an inwardly extending tongue formed intermediate the slits, said" inwardly extending ltongue being adapted to be pressed downwa'rdly whereby the portion intermediate the tonguev and the periphery of the body .portieri will be bent upwardly.
A bottlestopper comprising a oireular ,l'iod-jv portion, said 'eireular body portion having segmental slitsI adptcent its periph- 1 tongue with the body portion, e weakened thumb of the operator between the stopper portion formed intermediate the outer exand the bead on the bottle neck. 1.0 tremity of' the tongue und the periphery of In testimony whereof I aix my signature the body portion, said weakened orton bei'n presence o two' Witnesses.
ing adopted to bend and causert e portion AUGUST ROCHWITE. intermediatev the outer extremity of the' Witnesses: l tongue and the periphery to rise upwardly, JAMES LEIGH,
thereby permttingiv the-insertion of the LILLIAN A. LEIQH.
