To aZZ whom '1' If may concern:
Be it known that I, Fimmnrro CoN'rnN'rI, a subject of Victor Immanuel Ill, King of Italy, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Garment-Forms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in tailors forms, and has for its object, among other things, to produce a device of this character with means for adjustment of the several elements to accommodate garments for figures of various sizes for forms other than normal.
To these, and other ends, my invention consists in the tailors form, having certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and more particulary pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in the several figures: Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device; F 2 is a sectional view thereof upon line A I of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the upper end of the neck section with some of the parts shown in section upon line L-J of Fi 2' Fi 4 is a sectional view u )on line o 7 Q. (x H of big. 2; 1 1g. 5 1s a sectional view upon line E F of Fig. 2; Fig. (3 is a sectional view upon line C--D of Fig. 2; Fig. 7 is an enlarged view of the hinged mechae nism connecting the neck and bust sections; Fig. 8 is a view of the arm bar and a fragl'nentary portion of the shoulder arm with which it is connected; and Fig. 9 is a side elevation of the slide and arm for adjusting the shoulder.
My improved form is preferably made in three sections, that is, a base section, bust section, and neck section.
The base section is constructed with a spider member 1, which is supported upon a standard 2 and rests upon a fixed collar 3, and to which are hinged the plates 5, (3, 7 and 8. These plates are designed so as to conform in outline to that portion of the human body immediately below the chest, and each is provided with a spring 9, arranged so as to move the upper ends thereof toward each other. A coil spring or any other type of spring may be used equally as well as the one shown.

The bust section is constructed of two members 10 and 11, which combined, are designed to represent the bust of the human figure, and are m'n'mally arranged with the edges oi. the sections abutting against each other in the back, but have an open space 12 between their edges in the trout. Upon the lower end of each oil these sections is a flange 1.3, which projects downwardly between the plates 5, 6, 7 and 3, and upon the interior thereof are the inwardly projecting arms 14-, which intermesh with each other and are rotatably mounted upon the standard 2, resting upon the fixed collar 15. The members comprising the bust sections are moved, as desired, about the axis of the standard 9 to accomn'iodate chests of various sizes and variations in waist measure are provided for by moving the base section toward and away from the bust section, so that the plates 53, (3, 7, and 8 swing inwardly and outwardly by reason of their contact with the flaring flanges 13. In its new position the base section is secured by the thumb screw 16.
The neck section is constructed of two members 17 and [8, arranged so that normally the members :but: at the back, with an open space it) between them at the front, substantially as shown in Fig. 3. Each of these 111011'111018 is provided with a dowm'ardy projecting wing 20, which is hinged by the pins 21 and 22 to the upwardly projecting wings 23 upon the arms 14;-l-l. ictwcen the wings 20 is the adjusting slecvi 24-, which has a finger button 25 at its upper end, and a plug 96 at its lower end, that is provided with a shank 27 that is threaded into a. plug 28 fixed in the upper end of the standard 2. The neck section is moved into any of its adjusted positions, the center lines oi. its extremes being indicated by broken lines in Figs. 1 and 7, by rotation of the sleeve 2 1-, which raises the end of the plug 9.6 from the inner ends of the pins 21 and 22 by reason of the threaded connection of the shank 27 with the plug 28. When the pressure upon the pins has been released, the neck section is moved to the desired position and there locked by rotation of the sleeve 24- in the reverse direction, the end of plug 26 pressing against the inner ends oil? the pins 2] and 22. The members 10 and '11 are also locked in their adjusted positions about the axis of the standard 2 by this same mechanism, as

which engage the lugs 31 uponthe arms 32 integral with the wings 20. The lower ends of the shoulder pieces 29 are raised and lowered through mechanism which consists of the arms 45, having a knuckle connection 33 with said shoulder plates; slide members 3a connected therewith and guided through openings 35 in the arms 32; and adjusting screws 36 rotatable in the flanges 37 and threaded into the slides 3a. Rotation of the screws 36 move the slide members at up or down according to the direction of rotation or" said screws, and through the arm and connection 38 the outer ends of the said sleeve members will be raised or lowered, the upper ends moving about a pivot through the connection of the slotted arms 80 and lugs 31.-
Upon both sides of the bust section are the arm members 38, which are supported by the bars 39, pivotally connectedwith the lugs 40, within said arm members, and projecting through the lugs 41 integral with the arms 45. This bar has a movement through said lug in the direction of its length, and is held against accidental movement through a click device, comprising a pin 42, having an angular head that projects into the teeth upon said bar, and a spring 48 that surrounds the shank of said pin to hold the head in and against the teeth.
Movement of the shoulder members, either up or down, carries with it the arm members, so that they always occupy subsiantially the same relative position with the outer end of the shoulder members, slots 44; in the bust members 10 and 11 providing means for the uninterrupted vertical movement of the bars 39.
A bust form designed and constructed substantially as shown herein is usable for the purpose of fitting garments having an almost unlimited variation in size and shape,
well as for garments to be worn by persons having a figure that is more or less abnormal.
There are minor changes and alterations that can be made within my invention, aside from those herein suggested, and I would therefore have it understood, that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettoward and away from each other, depend ing upon the direction of movement of said member; and a neck section, pivotally connected with said bust section.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a base section; of a bust section, composed of two members, mounted so as to be mdependently moved about a common axis; a neck section, said neck section being composed of members that are rotatable about a common axis; and means for pivot-ally connecting said neck section to said bust'section, said pivotal connection being at substantially a rightangle to said last mentioned common axis.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a base section; of a bust section, composed of two members, mounted so as to be independently moved about a common axis; a neck section, composed of members that are independently rotatable about a common axis; means for pivotally connecting said neck section to said bust section, at substantially a right angle to said last mentioned common axis; shoulder sections connected with said bust section; and means for adjusting the relative position of said shoulder sections witl said bust section, said means being actuated through said neck section.
i. In a device of the character described, the combination with a base section; of a bust section, composed of two members, mounted so as to be movable about a common axis; a neck section, having a hinged connection with said bust section; shoulder members connected with said bust section; members connecting said neck section with said shoulder members; means connected with said neck section for adjusting the position of said members; and arm members mounted upon opposite'sides of said bust section, and having an adjustable connection with the shoulder adjusting means.
