Description
W'ILLIAM A. NEWTONp QF Clout-300E, MISSOURI.
IPAVING AND METHOD MAKING SAME.
No Drawing.
Specification of Letters intent Application filed August 23, 1911.
Patented Aug. 5,1913. Serial No. 645,468.
In carrying out my invention, I aim to provide a novel and improved pavement adapted for use as" a street pavement, roadway, sidewalk, or lion! in warehouses, barns, stables or other similar building structures.
In the present instance ll provide a a. i
ment which will be strong, durable, economical and efficient, and which may he provided at a relatively small cost.
A further object of my invention is to provide apavementwhich is practically Waterproof, and which will not be ground up and thereby rendered dusty by constant. trallic over the same.
A further object of my invention is to form a pavei'nent of crushed, porous rock saturated. or impregnated. with crude petro leuin, asphalt or the like. l urthern'lore, lll
order to harden the pavement, if desired. .l 1
mix with the porous rock so saturated, pul verized burnt shale or clay in suitable proportions.
With the above-recited objects, and others of a similar nature in view, the invention consists in an improved pavement and method of making the same asset forth and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
in the practice of invention, Lemploy a body of rock, possessing a great porosity,
such brown sand rock, and crush or pulverize the same, the rock being thoroughly impregnated or soaked in petroleum or heavy crude oil or asphalt. After the rock so saturated has been thoroughly crushed or pulverized, it is deposited on the roadbed and rolled or otherwise pressed. I have found that the roadbed so formed is exceedingly durable and forms a-street or walk which is not responsive to noise as are the pavements commonly laid in cities or towns. In order to harden the pavement for Warehous buildings or other strimtures, I burn .nrla l)(lll. of shale or clay and mix Name in suitable proportions with the pulverized. saturated porous stone and the body so compounded may then be laid in the usual manner to make a smooth, hard and lasting pavement.
