To all whom i5-may concern Beit. known that il, ABRAHAM RosnNBnnG, a citizen ofithe United States, residing in the boroug'h of Manhattan, city, county, and -State o-'f New York, have invented an 1mprovement in Thread-Carriers, of which the following is 'a specification.
y invention relates `to thread carriers, and the object thereof is the provision of a thi'ead carrier which is adjustable and readily attachableto :any sewing machine, provided with a spool-post.,` and furthermore is for the provision of a thread carrier by which a plurality of bobbins or spools may be so supported that in the use of adevice comprising' my invention, a sing'le thread carrier kmay be employed to simultaneously Asupport a .plurality of spools or bobbins, making it possible to employ my invention equally well 4on machines using one, two, thi'eeor moie needles at the same time.
Furthermore, my improved thread carrier is vso yconstructed ythat when the bobbin or .spools are placed on, the same are entirely out of the operators way, andfhence do not come in contact with or interfere in any manner with the work. d
Still, furthermore, in the use of my invention, the spools or bobbins are soplaced that the 4thread :from each one is fed directly to the tension and to the needle without the intervention of any additional tension device whatsoever.
.ln carrying' out my invention, I prefer' ably employ a` support-post adapted to fit over the spool-post of a sewing' machine in one or a plurality of positions, adjustable devices cio-acting' with the spool-post to secure thesupport-postin position on the machine, and means secured to the support- `post forcarrying a plurality of bobbins or spools of thread, as will be hereinafter `more .particularly described.

Referring' particularly to the drawing', 10 designates the frame of a sewing' machine, which may be of any type whatsoever, provided it is fitted with a spool-post 11, with which ordinary sewing' machines are supplied.
My improved thread carrier preferably coinprisesa member indicated at 12, and suitably made from a bar of metal or other similar material. This `member is prefer- .ably vformed to have sec- tions 13, 111 and 15.
and the reason for so doing is merely to illustrate the adjustability of these sleeves and to show the possibility of placing on the cop-rod 27 and cop 2S a bobbin 29, from which the thread may be readily taken in the opposite direction to form or make the bobbins of thread or for other purposes.
In Fig. 1, I have illustrated the cops, upon which the thread bobbins are wound, as of substantially the same diameter as the coprods upon which they are placed, but as a matter of fact, in actual practice, these coptubes vary in diameter and are generally larger than the cop-rods upon which they are placed, and in order to maintain the thread bobbins in position on the cop-rods, and as shown in Fig. 2, I may provide each cop-rod 22, adjacent to its outer end, with a hole 32, so that when the cop-tube 30, having thread bobbin 31 thereon, is passed over the cop-tube 22, I may pass a pin 33 through the hole 32 and then force the thread bobbin and its vcop-tube back over the pin 33, the pin, as it will be understood, being of such a length as `to engage and frictionally hold the cop-tube and its thread bobbin in position, so that the unwinding of the thread will not displace the bobbin. It will further be understood that these pins 33 may be made in any suitable shape so that one side of a pin will be adapted to secure a cop-tube and its bobbin of a certain diameter on the cop-rod, whereas the other side of the pin may be made longer or shorter to likewise maintain the cop-tube of a different diameter and its thread bobbin in position on the cop-rod.
As an equivalent and substitute fastening device for the clamp post 18, adjustable in the tapped opening 17 of the section 13 and for the set screw 19, I have shown in the modified form orf-my invention, illustrated in F ig. 3, a set screw 35 in the section 13 t0 be brought with force against the pin 11 and a thumb screw 36 through the arm adapted to be brought down upon the frame of the sewing machine or to enter a hole provided therein, so that the thread carrier may be securely held in the position desired.
I claim as my invention:
1. A thread carrier, comprising a support post adapted to fit over the spool post of a sewing machine in any o-ne of a plurality of positions, adjustable devices coacting with the said support post, the frame of the machine and the said spool post to secure the support post in position on the machine, and means secured to the support post for carrying a thread bobbin.
2. A thread carrier comprising a supportpost, two parts of which are formed at a substantially right angle to one another and the third part of which is formed at a substantially right angle to the said other parts, a clamp post adjustable to position in one end of said support-post, means for securing the clamp post against the surface of the frame of the machine, and means secured to the support-post for carrying a thread bobbin.
3. A thread carrier comprising a supportpost, two parts of which are formed at a substantially right angle to one another and the third part of which is formed at a substantially right angle to the said other parts, a set-screw in the clamp-post, a bobbin-post secured to the opposite end of the supportpost, a plurality of T-sleeves on the said bobbin-post, and a device connected with each of the said T-sleeves for supporting a thread bobbin.

A thread carrier comprising a supportpost, two parts oit' which are formed at a substantially right angle to one another and the third part of which is formed at a substantially right angle to the said other parts, a set-screw in the clamp-post, a bobbin-post secured to the opposite end of the supportpost, a plurality of T-sleeves on the said bobbin-post, a device connected with each of the said lsleeves for supporting a thread bobbin, and means for securing the thread bobbin in position on the said device.
5. A thread carrier comprising a supportpost, two parts of which are formed at a substantially right angle to one another' and the third part of which is formed at a substantially right angle to the said other parts, a set-screw in the clamp-post, a bobbin-post secured to the opposite end of the supportpost, a plurality of T-sleeves on the said bobbin-post, a cop-rod connected to and eX- tending from each one of the said T-sleeves, each cop-rod being provided with a hole passing transversely through the same adjacent to its free end, and a pin adapted to pass through the said hole in the cop-rod to frictionally engage the cop-tube upon which the thread bobbin is wound, to maintain the same in position.
