STORE FURNiTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 11, 1911.
Patented May 20,1913. Serial No. 654,093.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS F. KoNIAKow-' SKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellinger, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in Store Furniture; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to store furniture, and particularly to that class thereof known as ribbon or tape cabinets.
It contemplates the construction of a cabinet of this nature wherein there will be a single means of access, the stand containing the ribbon or tape being rotatable, in order that each compartment may be brought into cooperation with the access openings.
Further, this invention provides a cabinet adapted to contain various widths of ribbon,
in such a manner that as the same is unwound the amount may readily be determined.
Among the others is to construct a cabinet which will have a rotatable stand therein mounted in bearings, which may be readily removable from the cabinet when so desired.
With the above and other objects in'view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is an outside elevation of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a central, vertical section thereof; Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof; Fig. 4 is a vertical section of one of the ribbon compartments; Fig. 5 is a horizontal section thereof; and Fig. 6 is a fragmentary side elevation of one of the ribbon compartments.
The present invention comprises a hexagonal, or other geometrically shaped, cabinet or casing, having the sides thereof transparent, one of said sides constituting a door or means of access. Centrally mounted in the bottom thereof is a journal which cooperates with a similar journal mounted centrally on the interior of the stationary top, for mounting an inner cabinet or stand for rotation about a vertical pivot within the casing or cabinet. This stand is geometrically similar to the casing or cabinet and has a plurality of compartments formed or mounted 'in'e'ach face thereof, said compartments being of various sizes to accommodate various widths of ribbons.
Cooperating with each compartment is a mechanism for operating an indicator disk as ribbon is withdrawn from the compartment, as will hereinafter be more fully described.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings 10 indicates the outer cabinet 0r casing, constructed hexagonally, or in conformance with a suitable geometrical figure, one side 11 of which is hinged to form a door or means of access. The top 12 of the casin or cabinet 10 is removable and is retained in its normal or cooperative position in said casing through the instrumentality of the hooks or catches 13. A stud 1a is centrally mounted in the bottom of the casing 10, while a stud 15 is similarly mounted on the interior of the top 12. These studs 14 and 15 are adapted to be received in the journals 16 mounted centrally on the top and bottom of the stand or cabinet 17 which is mounted for rotation in the casing 10 and which conforms geometrically to said casing.
Each face of the stand or cabinet 17 is provided with a plurality of compartments, of various widths, adjacent to each of which is located a sample plate 19, to designate the quality and color of the ribbon in the adjoining compartment.
Mounted for removal in each of the compartments 18 is a drawer or receptacle 20, the forward face of which is open and surrounded by a flange 21, which provides a stop for the inward movement of said drawer, each of the drawers 20 provided with the upwardly extending slots 22 and the vertical walls thereof, in which a reel or spool of ribbon 23 is retained, through the instrumentality of the shaft 24, said shaft protruding beyond the terminals of said reel projecting. into the slots. These slots provide means whereby the empty spool or reel may be removed and a new one substituted therefor. An enlargement 25 is provided at one terminal of the shaft 24 and projects into the adjacent wall of the compartment containing the cooperating door, and is detachably secured through the instrumentality of a slot formed in said enlargement with a train of gears 26, which operates a dial or disk 27. This disk is provided with graduations, the numbers of which appear within the index plate 28, and designates the amount of ribbon removed from the spool or reel. This gearing is such that as a yard of ribbon or other material is removed from the reel, one of the graduations will appear in the index plate 28.
In order to provide a means whereby the spool may be retained from movement, a pin 29 is inserted in the wall of the compartment and engages the slot or enlargement 25, thus locking the spool from movement when it is not desired to remove the ribbon therefrom. A spring 30 is pivotally mounted in the bottom of the drawer 20, and is curved upwardly to bear against the forward surface of the spool, thus normally retaining the terminal of the ribbon into engagement with said spool, and preventing the self-unwinding thereof. A hearing bar 31 is mounted on the forward face of the drawer, and provides a means whereby the ribbon maybe cut in a straight line, as illustrated in Fig. 4:.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to be secured by U. S. Letters Patent is:
In a ribbon case containing drawers, a
"plurality of shafts in said drawers one for each drawer for mounting spools of ribbon thereon, a train of gears connected to each of the several shafts for indicating the amount of ribbon withdrawn from the case, av pin seated in the walls of the case adapted to lock the gears and the shafts to prevent LOUIS F. KONIAKOWSKY.
