Description

,l Jenn Bonner GRA-Noi RAPIDS, MIcHIcaN.
gaat can.
Letters .Patent No. 105,894, dated ugmt 2, 1870. t
The Schedule referred, to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To `all whom it may concer-ir: t
Be it -knownsthat I, J om: Bonn, of the city'of Grand Rapids, "Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper andCard-Outting Machines; `and I'do hereby declare that the following l is a full, clear,`and exact ldescription of my invention, l refercnce'being had "tothe accompanying drawing and theletters of reference marked thereon, and the same u gare made apartgofl these specificationse The figure represents a general view of my invention in ers ectne when constructed and read for av y y y The flame-work ofthe machine,.shown in the figureiby the` letters' A'A,` may be constructed of wood or any othersuitable material.
The part represented in the iignre by letters e e e and E is a strong ti-ame,composed of iron or som'e suit-able material, and is moved upward and downward `whenthe machine is infoper'atiom d t-hat bar. l
. d is a vbeveled cog-wheel attached to the screw Sin such a manner as to revolve with it, and c is a perpendicular beveled cog-wheel, which engages with the cog-wheel d. i
y B is an ordinary hand crank-wheel. provided with the handle t. l This wheel `is`1 connected with the part c `by means `.of a strong rod, n. l
In 'the `figure, letters hand k represent adjustable gauges. i i i e The gaugeph is made to fit into the grooves, as
rshown in the figure. `The gauge k is attached to two rectangular strips of iron, shown in the figure by :t qs,
which slide under the table of the machine.
is held in its place by means of the thumb-nuts lm m; t
In cutting cards with my invention, the card-board is placed upon the table and passed under the knife until it meets with the gauge k.
Then, by revolving the wheel B, the wheelsc and d are put in motion, and the part R of the frame is presseddownward by the revolution of the lscrew S, thus drawing the knife a with great power uponthe card-board, easily cutting through a large number of cards at the same time, when ythe card-boards are cnt into strips of the width corresponding with the length of the cards desired.
The gauge 1c is regulated tothe required distance, and the strips are placed against the gauge It, passed under the knife until they meet the gauge k, andthe knife lowered a-s above described.
In cutting paper with my machine, the gauges h and kare removed, and an ordinary flat table is placed upon the top of the machine. The paper to be cut is placed under the knife, and the knife lowered as above described.
The cutting power of the machine may be increased by increasing the size or circumference of the .cog-
wheel d, or by diminishing the circumference of the through the cross-bar, firmly connected to the bevel? wheel d, and operated by the bevel-wheel c upon the haft mand the crank-wheel B, substantially as set orth. Y y
Witnesses: JOHN BOLE.
