To all whomr'i may concern Be it known that I, Pnrnn LrniBUnNn'a ROBERTSON, of Milton, near I-Iainilton, 1n the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certa-in new and useful Improvements in Blank-Feeding Devices; and I do hereby declare that-the following is a fiill, clear, and exact description of the same.
The invention forming the subject-matter of this application, which is a divisional part of application Serial No. 599,548, filed Dee. 27, 1910, is especially adapted for use in feeding screw blanks'to screw forming mechanism, and it` has for an object to pi'ovide a blank feeding means which will be simple in construction and which will also be morepositive in action than those heretofore known.

which parts comprise portions of the screw machine, form no part of the present invention having been fully disclosed and claimed in the application above referredto, whilev the chuck 6, the jaws whereof are indicated at 7, has been made the subjectmatter of a separate divisional application tiled by me June 2, 1911 under Serial No. 680,889.'
My improved blank feeding device comprises two main parts or members lone of which is adapted to receive the blanks, indicated at w, from a suitable device as the inclined chute 14; formed by a pair Aof vertically arranged parallelstrips on the tops of which the heads of the blanks rest with their slianks or bodies hanging down therebetween, the blanks being delivered to the upper end of the chute by suitable means, to which further reference will be presently niade, from a suitable hopper 15, mounted upon a standard 16 on the bed plate 1. The other main part or member is adapted to receive the blanks from the first member and "deliver them to the vchuck 6. The first of these parts consists, briefly speaking, of a rotatably mounted member adapted to receive the blank and operated by suitable means to cause it to advance the blank to ^the desired point.A In the present embodiment of my invention this part of the feeding' mechanism is formed as follows: A horizontal disk 29 is located' adjacent to the lower end of the chute and has its periphery formed with notches or recesses 30 to receive the blanks which are delivered thereto in vertical position. rI`his disk is rigidiy secured on the upper end of a vertical spindle 31 rotatable iii a bearing bracket 31 on the upper Aface of which the disk rests freely, vthe bracket being secured upon apart of the standard 16. The disk 29 is intermittently rotated by ineaiisof a ratchet wheel 32 rigid on the lower end of the spindle 31 and which is operated by a pawl 33 pivoted to a link 34 having legs 35 which inclose the ratchet wheel and are pivoted thereto at one end. 'Ihe blanks travel down the chute 14 by gravity and as each blank reaches the bottom of the chute it enters one of the notches in the disk 29 and is car- 50, the straps Il and 42 retaining the blank in proper position in the notches 3 0 during the rotation of the disk. The arm is then operated (through shaft 53, gears 66, and .67, etc.) to sivingit to a'vertical position with the blank having its head facing toward the chuck and being in position to be engaged by the jaws of the latter, the

The combination With mechanism for acting upon a blank, of blank feeding means including a rotary member adapted to receive and advance a blank, means retaining such blank while being advanced by the rotary member with its end projecting from such rotary member parallel to the axis thereof, an oscillatory arm provided With a blank gripping device adapted to oscillate from a position with its blank gripping device adjacent to the said rotary member and .in thev path of movement ofthe said projecting portion of the blank held thereby to a position adjacent the said mechanism for acting upon the blank, and means for operating the said rotary member to cause it to move the blank into engagement With the gripping device of the oscillatory arm when the latter is adjacent the said rotary member. 7
2. In a blank feeding device, Vin combination, an oscillatory feed arm provided with a clip, a rocker shaft to one end of which said arm is connected, a reciprocatory rod located near the other end of the shaft., means for reciprocating the rod, and means operatively connecting the rod and shaft to cause reciprocation of the rod t-o rock the shaft, including a disk rigid upon the rod and formed with a slot, and an eccentric pin carried by the shaft and engaging in the said slot.
3. In a blank feeding device, in combination, a frame, an arm provided With means for'holding a blank, meanspivoting the arm `to the frame, means for causing the arm to swing upon its pivot point, and means acting synchronously With such last mentioned means to cause such arm to have revoluble motion imparted thereto, for the purpose set forth.
4. In a blank feeding device, in combination, a frame, an arm provided with means for holding a blank, means pivoting the arm to the frame, means for causing the armto swing upon its pivot point, and means for causing the said arm to revolve upon its own axis.
5. In a blank feeding device, in combination.an oscillatory arm provided with means for holding a blank, means for oscillating the said arm, and means for caus-` ing `the said arm to revolve upon its own axis, including a pair of intermeshing gears mounted one upon the arm and the other upon the machine frame. In a blank vfeeding device, in combination, a rocker shaft, an oscillatory arm provided vvithmeans for holding a screw blank, and swiveled upon the rocker shaft, a lbevel pinion mounted on the arm, a stationary bevel gear intermeshing with the said pinion, and means for rocking the said shaft, for the purpose set forth.
7. In a blank feeding device, in combination, a rocker shaft, an oscillatory arm provided with means for holding a blank, and swiveled upon the rocker shaft, a bevel pinion mounted on the said arm, a stationary segmental bevel gear intermeshing with the said pinion, and means for rocking the said shaft, for the purpose set forth.
8. Ina blank feeding device, in combination, a rotatable disk formed with recesses adapted to receive a blank, retaining means acting in conjunction with the said recesses, operating mechanism applied to the said disk, an oscillatory arm adapted to receive the blank from the disk, means for oscillating the said arm, andmeans for causing the' said arm to revolve upon its own axis.
