Description
STEWART.
Vapor Burner.
No. 105,012. Patented July 5, 1870.
NJETERS. FHOTO-LYHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON D C new fittin WILLIAM STEWART, 0 1i STEUBEL VILLE, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 105,012, dated July 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same. I
1, WILLIAM STEWART, of the city of Stcubenville, county of J efi'erson and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Generating and Burning Gas, produced from prepared bcnzole or gasoline, of which the following is-a specification.
My invention consists in a hollow cylinder, made of cast metal or sheet metal, with the upper end concave forming a cup or how], and the lower end screwed on to the supply-pipc. From the inside of the cylinder a hole (or holes) is drilled, coming out near the center of the cup. I
On the edge of the cup or cylinder, there is a projection, extending upward, widening toward the top, which serves as a gas-generator, being impinged upon by the gas from the hole in the cylinder. The project-ion may be made hollow with gas-jets on the top, (a single plate may be used if only a s'nlall' quantity of light is required, the hole in the cup furnishing sufficient gas.) When the projection is made hollow, it is connected by an opening in the lower end with the opening inthe cylinder.
\ The inner plate of the projection is curved toward the center of the cup or burner, and the extremity of the curved plate is perforated with holes or slots, or either.
The supply is attached to the lower end of the cyl inder, and extends a few inches downward, and on it is the cock which regulates the supply. It is then bent upward and connected with the resorvoir, which is placed to one side and above the level of the burner.
'When lighting the burner for use, a verylittle fluid is let into the bowl of the cylinder, which is set on fire and immediately produces gas to continue the plate B, the cavity between the two plates and cylinder being connected, and both acting as gas-generators. WM. STEWART.
