FILLING-GUIDE FOR LOOMS.

To all whom it 'may concern: Be it known that I, ROBERT JAMIESON, a
Y citizen of the United States, and resident of Hopedale, county of \Vorcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement. in Filling-Guides for'Looms, of which the following description, in connection with a 'Itffreuently happens that cloth will be woven w ieh is very narrow in proportion; to the width of the cloth which could be woven upon a given loomf'and whenthat is the case there is a long, stretchof filling between the selvage of the cloth and the shuttle box. Occasionally this long stretch of filling will throw ahead as. the lay heats up and pass under the filling-fork, causing trouble when the filling iscaught.
In accordance with my presentinvention I provide a guide, which: is mounted'upon a convenient part or adjunct. of the lay, preferably the usual shuttleuard, and extended downward therefrom in front of the shuttle path to the raceway, to inl'erru t the filling should it tend to throw-ahea the guide being set at suclia point with relation to the fork that it will prevent the catching of the filling thereunder. The'g uide made adjustable laterally sothat itcan beKset in the position best suited to the conditions in any given case.
The novel features of my be fully described in the subjoined sp cification and particularly pointed out in't 1e following claims.
Figure 1 is a top plan viewof a sufiicient part of a loom to be understood, with one embodiment of my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse section thereof on the line 2--2, Fig. 1, looking toward the right.

In accordance with my invention I provide a filling guide 9, made of a stripof plate metal, having a flattened u per end or head 10 provided on its under si e with a seat, 11,-;

In side elevation the guide 9 extends frontward from the head 10 and is then downturned and curved rearwardly at its foot to rest 11 on the top of the lay'at the front edge o the race-plate 2, as clearly ,shown in Fig. 2. The guide is set laterally at such a point that it. will intercept the filling, if thrown forward, ata point near the fork, and will prevent the fillin from passing under or catching upon the ork.
From Fig. 2 it will be seen that the filling guide can be set at any desired oint between the fork and the selvage of t e cloth, to accommodate any of flie various conditions which may arisefin'j'iictual practice.

As will be apparent the guide is altogether out of the way of the shuttle, the
ork, or any of the working parts of the loom, it is not in the way of the weaver, and 100.
