- useful improvements in polishing hoods, and
the objegts of the invention areto provide a5 h/od of this character in which the same '1sformed of glass so as `to enable-the 0perator to perfectly see the work during the grinding or polishin operation, and further to soconstruct the ood that the products resulting from lthe grinding or polishing operation will be deflected rearwardly, in a direction away from the operator, where they may be caught at the rear or back side of the hood, by a felt, Aor similar member.
In the drawings-Fi ure 1-is a pers ective view ofthe invention, and,Fig. 4:2 1s a vertical sectional viewof- Fig. 1.` Y
The bench 1 on.which the bearin 2 of the polishingJwheel is secured]` is ormed with an openin 4 in which is inset the up# turned end 5 o 'a suction pipe 6. The base board 7 of the polishing hood is formed with a pluralit' of apertures 8 whichv communicate with the vend 5 of the. suction pi ein order to carry off lthe products resisting from the polishing orfgrinding operation. The base board 7 is of substantially triangular form', and is. provided with an apron or extension 9 at itsfrontV in order to form a rigid and 'substantial supportl for. the base board on the bench 1. A metal :traine-which consists of'sidefpanels 10, a back panel'll, and a topv panel 12, is carried by the base board, the side panels 10 converging fat the'A rear or back panel. Glass vplates-13 are ,Secured in the two'side and top panels, in or-A der to allow the operator -to readily and' perfectly observe' the work during fthe' polishing operation, .and by virtue of the side. glass platesv bemglnclined toward each" other at the back side of the hood', it will be evident that any particles of matter which resultfrom the, grinding'operation, will, coming in contact wlth'the glass` side platesH be deflected in a direction' towardthe back cf the hood, andv forthe purpose of. holding t-he particles of matter so thrown rear- Patented Dee. 17,1912; l
wardly, a section 'of felt .or similar material 14 is securedto the back 15, which latter may be of wood, or other suitable material. Owingto thesmooth side faces afforded by the. glass plates -'13,.it will be seen that the particles thrown of. during the grindin operation will be assisted in their rearwar 'deflection in a direction toward v the felt back 14.
The vfront end of the top panel 12 is formed with a transverse metal clamp 16 in which the inner longitudinal side of an inclined glass guard 17 is held. The glass guard by virtue of its downward inclinationv vserves to protect the operator against flying sparks, or other particles or matter which result from grinding o eration.
From the above it wi be evident that the operator is enablfd to seeat all times the 'work during thefgrinding operation, and at the. same-time a ple protection is provided against flying 'sparks or other particles which Vfollow the grinding operation. By
,wetting the felt back 14, the particles contacting therewith will haveV an increased degree of adherence therewith.
Having thus zdescribed my finvention, I
ters Patent Vclaim as new and desire to secure-.by Let- 1. In a polishing hood, a base board hav-v inga triangular major portion and a front extension, a'metal frame having side panels, a top panel, and a. back panelsecured to the base board, glassplates in the side panels and thetop panel, a back plate in the back panel, a section of felt covering and secured to the back plate, a metal clamp carried by. thej-top panel at the front side thereof, and
-a downwardly inclined glass guard having ,one side secured in said clamp.
24111 a polishing hood, a frame having rearwardly converging vertical side panels,
atop panel and a vertical back panel, glass plates in the sides and top, a plate in the back, a transverse clamp'carried by the front side ofthe top of the frame, and a1 downwardly` inclined guard having its rear sidesecured Ain said clamp- 3. In a polishing hood, a base, a pair of opposite rearwardly converging vertical .side plates secured to the baseto d eiect the particles of matter resulting from the grindname to this specification in the presence of ing operation toward the rear ends of said two subscribing Witnesses. e side plates, a back plate connected to the n rear ends of said side plates, and a top plate l LOUIS E' SADLER 5 of glassconnectig and secured to the up- Witnesses:
per sides of the side plates. F. 4H. SADLER,
In testimony whereof I have 'signed my FRED B. B YRAM.
