STEPHANOS LIOLIOS, OF CHARLESTON, MISSOURI.
COUNTER AND HEEL SUPPORT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHANOS Lromos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Mississippi and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counter and Heel Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for stifiening the counter and heels of boots or shoes so that they will not run over.
It is the object of the invention to provide a simple and efficient device of the kind stated, and one which is reversible so that it can be attached to either side of the shoe.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in a novel form of support and attaching means therefor to be hereinafter described and claimed. 7
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specificationFigure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the support reversed, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the support removed.
Referring more particularly to Fig. 1 of the drawing, the support comprises a still metal plate 5 which is rounded in contour and slightly dished so that it may fit on the counter 6 of the shoe. The plate fits the side of the heel 7 and is also in contact with the counter just above the heel. From the lower portion of the plate, at an angle thereto, extends inward a tongue 8 which fits against the inner side of the heel, and at the top of the tongue is an outstanding flange 9 which fits the instep 10 adjacent to the heel. The plate 5, the tongue 8, and the flange 9 are all in one piece. In the plate 5 are two apertures 11 and 12, respec- Speeification of Letters Patent.

tively. A nail or other suitable fastener 13 is driven through the aperture 11 into the heel 7. The function of the aperture 12 will be hereinafter described. In the tongue 8 are two apertures 14 through which fasteners 15 are driven into the heel 7. The flange 9 has an aperture 16 for a fastener 17 which is driven into the instep 10.
Vhen the device is reversed as shown in Fig. 2, that portion of the plate 5 which has the aperture 12, fits the side of the heel 7, and receives a fastener 18. The tongue 8 fits the instep and is fastened thereto by nails or other suitable fasteners 19 driven through the apertures ll The flange 9 fits the inner side of the heel and is secured thereto by a fastener 20 driven through the aperture 16.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the support can be easily attached and it is reversible so that it can be applied to either side of the boot or shoe. The support can be attached to a spring heel, rubber heel or high heel.
I claim:
A counter and heel support comprising a Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Gommissioner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
