Be it known that I, ALBERT. J G nAsoN, a. citizen of-"the United States, residlng at Jersey City, in the .county of Hudson and State of :New Jersey, have invented certain new andfluseful Improvements in Dolls, of which the following. is-a specification.

the novelty of which will be particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed. v

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 1 designates the body portion, which may be made of any size desired, and which as shown, is shaped to conform to .the figure of a child. The body may be covered. with a covering of light, thin leather, such as kid, so as to simulate the texture of human skin, preferably consisting of front and rear blanks 4, 5, joined at the side seams 6, and which may be held within the side seams of the cloth covering. At its base the body portion is joined along a seamed line and at which seamed line are connected the upper portions of the lower limbs, as will be hereinafter described. 1

which are also capable of limited rotation ge joint, andrelativeto each other on their longitudinal o axes so that they may be adjusted to simulate the positions of the human limb. It will be understood that the same general principle of construction embodying my invention 1s applicable either to an armv or leg. I will now proceed to described this limb construction as applied to an arm: The upper limb portion consists of a tubular/shell formed of inner and outer'layers 8, 9, of suit-able fabric spaced from each other and closed at the lower ends, and, at their upper ends, other.- The hollow space between the layers 8, 9, of. the tubular limb portion is stuffed with a soft material, such as a combination of felt and hair, the central longitudinal portion 10 of the limb being left free -and open for a purpose to be presently described. This limb portion is covered with a soft leather, or fabric covering 11, the a ition .of the limb, and the upper outer edge portion of which covering 11 is secured to the body at the joint 9*, above mentioned, whereby the limb is secured to the body. 13 designates the lower limb or forearm portion carrying the hand 14, said limb and hand portion being cut on a pattern fromfront and rear blanks, so that, when dismade to approach each tended and stuffed, the lower 'limb will simulate the general contour of the human forearm. This limb portion is filled or stuffed with a suitable material or in such a manner, which will render the same more rigid, or harder than the upper limb por-' tion, so that said forearm portion will retain the proper form.

At its upper end the shell of the forearm is closed by lin es of stitches 15 above the stuffing, so as to leave a reduced extended flexible part 16 of the forearm shell which ispreferably'unstufled, said stitched lines 15 preferably being located at approximately the position of the elbow. ' above described for the arm, is adapted for the construction of the legs, of which construction the upper leg portion is shown at 17 consisting of 'a hollow double wall shell 20 stuffed with felt and hair, as at'21, the

walls of which shell may be of any suitable fabriocovered by leather, if desired, the upper ends of which are secured to the base portion of the b0dy on a hinge joint22 which permits swingmg movement of the leg from front to rear. The lower leg portion is designated at 23 preferably made of leather'and formed with a foot in which the toes are delineated in shape so as to simulate as closely as possiblea human foot. At the upper portion-of the lower leg the stufling is retained-by means of transverse lines of stitches 24-so as to form an elongated reduc'ed extension 25, which is preferably unstuifed, and is adapted to be passed through the hollow tubular portion of the upper limb and connected atits upper end, along with the upper portion of the lower limb, to the base portion of the'body at said joint 22.

By this arrangement the lower limb is ca pable of rotary and hinge movement relative to the upper limb. r

By the above construction I provide a limb for dolls, manikins, and the like, which will retain the proper form, in which the parts are freely movable relative to each sisting of a stuifed member having a flexible other to simulate positions taken by the human limb, and which is unbreakable under ordinary conditions of use.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A limb construction for-dolls and the like comprising upper and lower portions, the upper port-ion consisting of a flexible tubular member, and the lower portion conreduced extension located and secured in said tubular portion.

6. In a doll or the like, a body, a limb comprising upper and lower portions, the upper portion consisting of inner and'outer shells with filling between the same, and

the lower portion consisting of a stufled part having a flexible reduced extension extending through said upper portion and secured to the body.
