Toall whom it may concern Be it known that I, HOWARD 1V. BEAVER, a

citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stamp Moistenin and Aflixing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. This invention relates to a stamp moistening and afiixing device and has for its object to provide means in a manner as hereinafter set forth to overcome the inconvenience due to the moistening of stamps by the tongue, said means being further capable of positioning the stamp upon and securing it to an envelop.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a stamp moistening and affixing device with means in a manner as hereinafter set forth whereby it can be adjusted so that stamps of different sizes can be moistened and affixed to an envelop without placing one to the inconvenience of moistening the stamps by the tongue.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a, stamp moistening and aflixing device which is simplg'..in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient in its use, conveniently used and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can beresorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a support formed of areatangular base plate 7 provided with, an end wall 8 and a side Wall 9. The walls 8 and 9 form a guide for positioning the envelop which is indicated at 10. 1

Projecting from and secured to the outer face of the side wall 9 near one end thereof is a receptacle 11 which contains a body. of absorbent material 12, preferabl a sponge which is dampened. The top 0 the receptacle 11 at each side thereof is provided with a pair of guide pieces 13. -The dam ene absorbent material 12 is utilized for moistening the stamp. The receptacle 11 has secured thereto a hinged cover 14.

The bottom of the receptacle 11 is formed by an extension 15 of the plate 7. The receptacle 11 is provided with an impervious lining 16 which may be of any suitable material. The base plate 7 is also extended, as at 17, to provide the bottom of a stamp receptacle .which is'formed from a pairof vertically disposed end member 18 seated in the side wall 9 and in a horiz ntally extending. member 19 which opposes the side wall 9. The members 18 and 19 are suitably connected to the extension 17 and form one side of the end walls of the stamp receptacle; the other side Wall of said recelptacle is formed by the end Wall 9, while t e extension 17, as before stated, constitutes the bottom of the stamp receptacle. The stamp receptacle includes a hinged cover 20, means such as adjustable partitions mounted in grooves 22 formed in the opposing faces of the member 19 and wall 9 providin compartments in the stamp receptacle, an which furthermore, provides means whereby the length of each compartment can be increased or terminated whereby stamps of varying lengths can be positioned in the stamp receptacle. The stamps are indicated by the reference characters 23.

Arranged over the base plate 7 at one corner thereof is a guide for a combined stamp carrier and aflixer which will be present-1y referred to and said guide is formed from a pair of spaced'longitudinally extending members 24, 25 secured to the end 'wall 8, and a horizontally disposed member side wall" 9. The combined stamp carrier and affixer includes a vertically disposed hollow tube 31 having a contracted exteriorly threaded upper end 32 to which is attached a depend ing nipple 33 and. a compressible bulb 34.

The bulb 34 is compressed and the head 37 placed into one of the compartments of the'stamp receptacle and against the outer face of' stamps, after which the bulb is allowedto expand, creating a suction and holding the stamp against the lower face of the suction head. The stamp is then moistened by moving it into contact with the absorbent body 12, after which the carrier and. afiixer is thrown downwardly bythe compression upon the handle 35 whereby the stamp is ailixed to the envelop 10., Prior to the connecting of the stamp to the carrierand aflixer, the envelop 10 is placed in position.

What I claim is:

' 1. A device for the purpose set forth comprising a support, a stamp moistener carried thereby, a combined stamp carrier and beneath which the envelop is positioned, a stamp receptacle secured to the support, means forming a part of said receptacle to provide for stamps of varying lengths, and means forming a part of said guide to provide for suction heads of varying lengths.

2. A device for the purpose set forth comprising a support,-a stamp moistener consupport, a stamp carrier connected to and arranged exterlor of said support, a combmedstamp carrier and aflixer. guide secured to said support and positioned above d the bottom thereof thereby providing a space for the positioning of an envelop upon the support below said guide, said receptacle having means to provide for stamps of varying lengths, and said guide having a part thereofv providing means for the passage of suction heads of varying lengths.
