Description
H. A. FISHER. GATHERING ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING MACHINES.
No. 103,318., Patented May 24, '1870.
D, 1 i \mvemwmw bvmesscsu M1; 6? I fiylgyi HART A. FISHER, OF EL'YRIA, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 103,318, dated May 24, 1 870.
'IMPROT'EMEITT IN GATHERING ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name 1, HART A. FISHER, of Elyria, in the county of Lorainand State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Gathering Attachments to Sewing- MacIiineS, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of this im'ention relates to a device to be attached to sewingmaehines for gathering and sewing onto a hand the cloth or fabric sewed.
The following is a description of its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view; i I
A is a plate of metal of suitable size and form,
which'n'iay be secured to the cloth-plate of a'sewingmachine by means of a thumb-screw in either of the slots a I).
On the front and rear sides of the plate A are flauges d (I, turned up, through which are made holes in which a guide-rod, B, plays, which is made double, the two being parallel. t
On the plate A is fixed atension-har, 0, bearing upon the rod B, the tension heing adjustable hy the A thumb-screw 1'.
A piece of leather, or other suitable material, is secured to the under side-of the bar 0, where it bears on the rodB.
0n the front end of the rod B is a cross-head, 1), in which is set a number of pin-points, i 'i.
The operation of this device is as follows: The plate A being properly placed and secured to the cloth-plate of the sewing-machine, the rod B is drawn forward to full extent, when the cloth to he gathered, together with the band, is placed under the presser-foot ot' the machine, the hand on top. The band is placed on the pin-points it only; the tcnsionbar O is turned down sufficiently to cause the rod B to be drawn but a little at each movement of the feed,
the cloth under the hand being taken up the full extent of the feed, thus gathering the cloth under the hand and sewing it at the same time.
The amount of cloth gathered may be regulated by increasing and diminishing the pressure of the tensionbar 0 on the rod B.
I claim-- I The tension-bar '0, thumb-screw e, guide-rod B, cross-head'D, and pin-points ti, all constructed and arranged as shown, andfor the purpose set forth.
HART A. FISHER.
