Be Qit known that we, EDMUND OL Sorrwerrznn and ALFRED HERZ, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in
the county of Cookv and State of Illinois,
have invented a cert-ain new and useful Improvement in Fuse Devices, of whichv the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to .the accompanying drawings, for-ming apart of this specification.
Our invention relates to fuse devices, and
especially to a type-of fuse device adapted for use in'connection with high tension currents.
' This application isa division of our application, vSerial No. 366,219, led April 3, 1907. In said other application we show two types of. device involving certain :Eeatures in common. In the present application we show one of the same devices, claiming specifically certain points or features not found in common 1n both types of device. y v

The device shown comprises a casing l, conveniently made of linsulating materialfor example, porcelain-and having a cover 2, desirabl'y made of the same material.-

The cover 2 is provided with a hinged or swinging member 12, carried by a pin or spindle 13, and subject coiled spring 14, tending tov swing and hold said member normally against the-block 5. Th'e partition 12 thus `divides the interior of the casing into two compartments.
Inv the operation of the device, vthe fuse 9 is normally in the position shown in the drawings between the blocks 4 and 5. Upon the passage of an overload'current, the fuse softens, and the block 5, acting by, immediately compresses the fuse, crushing and disseminating the same before it has time to blow. The result is that the fuse is really obliterated or snued out, and does not actually blow, asis cus-v there are,
