Be it known that I, ALBERT J. Branns'rnaxn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cambridge, in the county of Story and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shovels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to cultivator shovels, and has for its object the produc tion of a shovel of a reversible type wherein the blade may be changed to perform a function of the ordinary cultivator blade as a gopher, or as a shovel.

Another object of this invention is the production of an efficient securing means for firmly attaching the blade of a cultivator to the frame thereof in both of its adjusted positions.

lVith these and other objects in View, this invention consists of certain novel construct-ions, combinations, and arrangements of parts. as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device being used as a shovel blade. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the cultivator blade detached from the plow frame. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective of the cultivator blade in the position as used as a gopher. Fig. 41 is a plan view with the blade partly broken away.

Referring to the drawings by numerals 1 designates the blade engaging arm of the plow frame which arm fits into the socketplate 2 carried by the blade 3. The socket plate 2 is provided with a longitudinally extending channel and a transversely extending channel crossing said longitudinally extending channel intermediate its ends. The socket plate is also provided between the longitudinally extending channel and transversely extending opening at the junction thereof with web portions 4, 10 and 12 for allowing a clamp 5 to be secured thereto. Each of the web portions is provided with an aperture 6 through which apertures pass the bolts 7 for firmly clamp ing the clamp 5 in engagement with the socket plate 2. 1

and the clamp has its ends secured to the web portions 4 and 10 for holding the blade firmly in engagement with the arm 1. When the device is used as a gopher, the arm 1 is placed within the transversely extending channel 11 and the clamp 5 engages the web portions 4 and 12 of the socket plate, at the same time straddling the arm 1 for clamping the blade upon said arm. The blade 3 is sharpened upon its side as at 13 and termi nates into a pointat its end as at 14, the side sharpened edge acting as the gopher and the pointed end acting as the ordinary shovel.

From the foregoing description, it will be obvious that a simple and etficient device has been produced whereby the same blade may be used for two different purposes by easily and quickly changing the position of the blade upon the plow frame. Of course, the socket member may be welded or otherwise attached to the blade and it will be further obvious that the device may be read ily attached to any frame desired, which is provided with depending arms so as to en: gage the socket plates 2.

hat I claim is 1. A reversible blade for the cultivator consisting of a rectangular body having a pointed end and a sharpened side a socket plate carried by said blade having a longitudinally extending channel and a transversely extending channel, webs positioned between said channels at the junction thereof, said webs having apertures formed therein, a clamp engaging said Webs and being adapted to be swung upon said webs for attaching said plate in an adjusted position to a support.

2. A. cultivator blade of the class described comprising a socket plate having channels formed therein and extending at right angles to each other, webs positioned between said channels, a clamp engaging two of said webs and being adapted to be swung so as to engage another of said webs whereby said blade may be supported in difierent adjusted positions.
