NORMAN DOUGLAS MGCOLLUM, OF GORE, GEORGIA.
ADJUSTABLE SCRAIPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 16, 1911.
Patented July9,1912.
Serial No. 649,703.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NORMAN D. McCoL- LUM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gore, in the county of Chattooga and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Scraper, of
which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to plows and cultivators, and its object is to provide a new and improved scraper for attachment to a plow or cultivator, and more especially designed for scraping the ground on opposite sides of the plow point and sweeping it out wardly onto the adjacent rows of plants, hills or the like.
For the purpose mentioned use is made of a bracket bolted to the rear face of the foot or lower end of a plow or cultivator standard, angular clips attached to opposite sides of the bracket and scraper or sweep blades attached to the said clips and forming sidewise extensions of the plow point or shovel.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the ad justable scraper as applied; Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same; Fig. 8 is a front elevation of the same; and Fig. l is a sectional plan View of the same.
On the front A" of the standard or stock A of a plow or cultivator is secured the usual plow point or shovel B by the use of a' bolt C which extends through a slot A in the foot A to permit of adjusting the plow point or shovel B up or down. The bolt 0 also passes through a slot D in a bracket or block D fitted against the rear face of the foot A and adjustably secured thereon in an up and down direction by the said bolt C. Bolts E extend sidewise through the bracket or block D and serve to adjustably secure angular clips F to the sides of the bracket or block D, and the said angular clips F carry adjustable scraper or sweep blades G extending outwardly from the sides of the plow point or shovel B thus forming extensions thereof.
Each of the angular clips F consists of an attaching member F and a supporting member F the members being arranged at an acute angle, as plainly indicated in Fig.
4. The clip member F is provided with slots F 3 for the passage of the bolts E to permit of adjusting the clips forward or backward on the bracket or block D. The scraper or sweep blades G rest on the attaching members F of the clips F and extend with their inner ends under the sides of the plow point or shovel B, and each blade G is mounted to swing on a pivot H carried by the corresponding attaching member F near the inner upper end thereof, and each of the said scraper or sweep blades G is secured to the corresponding attaching member F by a bolt I on the blade Gr and extending through a slot F 4 in the attaching member F On loosening the bolts I, the blades G can be swung on the pivots H, up or down (see full and dotted lines in Fig. 3), to give more or less inclination to the lower edges of the blades according to the depth of the furrows made by the plow point or shovel B.
By making the parts adjustable in the manner described, the device can be readily arranged for various kinds of work.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination, a plow or cultivator standard, a shovel on .the front lower end of the said standard, a bracket on the rear lower end of the said standard and provided with a slot, a bolt for fastening the shovel to the standard and passing through the said slot for adjustably securing the bracket to the said standard, angular clips having slots, bolts extending through the said bracket and the said slots for adjustably securing the clips to the bracket whereby they may be moved toward and away from the shovel, and sweep blades adjustably secured to the said clips and having theirinner edges extending under the sides of the said shovel.
2. In combination, a plow or cultivator standard, a shovel on the front lower end of the said standard, a bracket on the rear lower end of the said standard and provided with a slot, a bolt for fastening the shovel to the standard and passing through the said slot for adjustably securing the bracket to the said standard, angular clips having slots, bolts extending through the said bracket and the said slots for adjustably securing the clips to the bracket, sweep blades having their inner edges extending under the sides of the said shovel, pivots for name to this specification in the presence pivotally connecting the said sweep blades of two subscribing Witnesses. to the said clips and bolts extendin through the said suieep blades and through NORMAN DOUGLAS MCOOLLUM' 5 slots in the said clips to adjustably secure Witnesses:
the sweep blades to the said clips. CLovls D. RIVERs, In testimony whereof I have signed my DAN EDWARDS.
