ADAM CHOYNACKI, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1912.
Application filed March 1, 1912. Serial No. 680,905.
and has for its object to provide an improved stopper of the cap type, in which the stopper is held in place by means of a locking hook which engages a loop at one side of the bottle neck, the cap being pivotally connected to a loop at the opposite side of the bottle neck, so that when the hook is disengaged the cap may be swung open.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figures 1 and 2 are side elevations at a right angle to each other of a bottle neck provided with the device. Fig. 3 is a top View. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 47-4: of Fig. 3.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a bottle neck. A band 7 of wire or the like isplaced around this neck under the shoulder 8, and this band has at one side a loop 9 and at the other side a loop 10, the latter presented transversely, or so that the hook may pass through the same. A metal cap 11 is connected to the loop 9 by means of a link 12, the link being hooked over a pin 13 which is held by folded knuckles 14 formed at one edge of the cap. A packing or disk 15 is placed under the cap, and is held in position between tongues 18 at the outer edge of the cap. At the edge of the cap opposite to the hinge 14 is a depending projection or tongue 17 bent down to fit beside the rimof the bottle. A pivot pin 18 is riveted to this tongue. A finger lever 19 swings on this pivot, from side to side, and this lever is provided with ahooked or curved finger 2O projecting from one side thereof, in position to engage in the loop 10 and so hold the cap in closed position. The curvature of the finger is such that it has a slight cam action, so that when the lever is pressed homeit pulls down on the cap to force the stopper against the mouth of the bottle.
To assist in looking the lever in position and prevent accidental loosening thereof, the tongue 17 is provided with notches or depressions 21, one of which is located above the pivot 18 and the other of which is located below said pivot, and the upper end of the lever 19 is formed with bosses or projections 22 which when the lever is pushed down straight snap into said notches by reason of the pressure of a spring 23 coiled around the pin 18 between the lever and a head 24 on the pin. The number of these notches and bosses may be increased if desired in order to increase the holding or frictional contact between the parts.
To open the bottle it is held and the lever 19 is pressed laterally with sufiicient force to retract the hook 20 from the loop 10, permitting the cap to be swung up or over to the side of the bottle. The bottle can be resealed in an obvious manner, by the same stopper and no tools are required either to close or open the stopper.
I claim:
In a bottle stopper, the combination of a loop attached to the bottle neck, a cap hingedly attached at one side to the bottle neck and having a depending projection at the opposite slde, a lever pivoted to said projection to swing transversely and having a spur adapted to engage in the loop, said projection and lever having engageable bosses and notches which are engaged when the lever is swung to locked position, and a spring pressing the lever against said projection.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ADAM CHOYNACKI.
