Be it known that I, Gonnox WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Electric Lamps and Supporting-Brackets Therefor; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference markedrthcreon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in

This invention relates to an improvement in electric lamps and brackets therefor, and particularly to electric lamps for-vehicles. For certain purposes it is desirable to have but a single wire leading to the lamp, andto make the other pole of the circuit throughathe lamp body, supporting bracket and part of the vehicle to which the bracket is attached.
' The object of this invention is to provide simple means which will permit the lamp to be readily removed from the, bracket and as conveniently attached thereto, and when attached the circuits through the lamp will be completed; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a lamp body 2 of any approved design provided at its rear with a socket plate 3 carrying a socket 4 adapted to set over a vertical post 6 of the horizontal bracket 7 formed with a plate 8 by which it'may be attached to any part ofthe vehicle against some metal. "Extending through the socket is a set screw 9 for clamping the lamp to the bracket. Extending through the plate 8 and through the horizontal bracket 7- is a longitudinal hole 10 formed at its outer end with a chamber 21 to receive an insulating block 11. Extending through this block 11 is ametaksleeve 12 with the rear end of which a wire t3 s attached, this wire leading through the bracket to the battery. In the'outer end of the sleeve is a spring-operated pin 14 whichnormally project-s beyond the end of the horizontal bracket 7. The socket plate is formed on its inner face with a longitudinal groove 15 and so that when attached to the lamp body, forms a channel for a wire 16 which leads from the lamp socket 17 through openings in the lamp casing and through the channel to a point near the bottom of the socketplate which is there provided with a longitudinal hole 18 containing an insulating block 19 in the center of which is a contact plate 20 with which the end of the wire 16 is connected. \Vhen the lamp socket 4 is set over the vertical post (3,v the contact plate 20 stands in line with the spring pin it and so as to connect the wires 16 and 13. The other circuit is made through the body of the lamp, the socket plate, socket, and vert-i-' the bracket, it is easy of access and an opening through the bracket is easily made.
I claim p 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a lamp bracket having a horizontal arm with a longitudinal opening through it, a vertical post projecting upward from said horizontal arm near its ing beyond the outer end of the horizontal arm and insulated therefrom, a wire connected with said pin and extending through said arm, of a lamp having a socket plate and a socket, the socket adapted toset over said vertical post whereby the lamp is supported. a contact plate mounted in the lower end of said socket plate and adapted to contact withthe spring pin in the arm, an electrical conductor extending from said contact plate to the lamp, the other line of the circuit being formed through the body of the lamp, its socket and the bracket.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a bracket having a horizontal arm provided near its outer end with outer end, a contact pin normally projeeta vertically arranged post, a hole extending through the horizontal arm, a spring pin mounted in said 'arm but insulated therefrom, a wire electrically connected with said pin and extending through said arm, of a lamp body provided with a socket plate, said socket plate formed between its inner face and the lamp body with a groove ex tending from the upper end downward and opening through the socket plate near the lower end, a contact plate mounted in said opening and insulated from the socket plate and adapted to be engaged by the said spring pin, an electrical conductor extending from said contact plate upward between the socket plate and lamp body and into connection with the lamp the other line of circuit being formed through the lamp body, socket and vertical post of the bracket.
