Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1912.
Application filed April 28, 1911. Serial No. 623,888.
. which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to poultry feeding and watering devices and it has for its objects to produce a simple and eflicient device of this character whereby various kinds of feed and other material such as ground oyster shells and bones, as well as other material, may be fed freely to the poultry but in such a manner as to avoid waste of material.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same con sists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention; it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise-structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of a feeding device or hopper constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical trans verse sectional view taken on the line H in Fig. 1.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved device comprises a hopper shaped casing having rear and front Walls 1, 2, which are connected together and spaced apart at suitable intervals by means of partition members 3 forming a plurality of compartments 4t, 4 which may be used for various kinds of feed and the like in a dry state. At one end a special compartment 5 is formed to be utilized as will be hereinmembers 3 are extended, thereby dividing the said trough into a plurality of compartments 4: corresponding with the compartments 4 of the casing proper. A covering member 7 of reticulated material such as wire netting is provided for that portion of the trough 6 having the compartments 4 to enable the fowls to have access to the material in the compartments 4: of the trough without possibility ofspilling, wasting, or trampling upon said materials.
The bottom of that portion of the trough 6 which alines with the compartment 5 of the casing is slotted and bent to form a supporting flange 8 adapted to support a bucket or water vessel 9 having a handle 10 whereby it may be readily removed for cleaning and refilling. The front wall of the casing has a slot 11 of a width corresponding with the width of the compartment 5, and adjacent to the upper edge of said slot is hingedly supported a cover member 11 having downwardly extending spaced arms 12 adapted to rest upon the front edge of the trough where said arms, which may be connected together by a cross piece 13, are supported. The end wall 14 of the casing adjacent to the compartment 5 may also be provided with a slot 15. The fowls will have free access to the drinking vessel through said slot 15 and between the arms 12 of the door member, permitting them to drink freely Without possibility of polluting the water. By raising the door member 11 the drinking vessel may be readily removed for cleaning and refilling.
Supporting members 16 are provided to enable the device to be suspended in convenient position for operation, and a cover 17 extending the entire length of the feed hopper is likewise provided, said cover being hingedly supported in position for operation.
The operation and advantages of the improved feed hopper will be readily under-' stood from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed by those skilled in the art to which it appertains. It is inexpensive in construction and it may be used for supplying feed and drinking water to fowls without danger of Waste or pollution.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A feed hopper comprising front and rear wall members, the latter being extended to form a receiving trough, end members and intermediate partition members spacing and connecting the wall members and eX- tended into the trough to form separate compartments; the bottom of one compartment being slitted and bent to form a supporting flange, and the front wall associated with said compartment being provided with an aperture; in combination with a door member supported hingedly adjacent to the upper edge of said aperture and having downwardly extending arms supported upon the front edge of the trough.
2. A feed hopper comprising front and rear wall members, the latter being extended to form a receiving trough, end members and intermediate partition members spacing and connecting the wall members and extended into the trough to form separate compartments, the bottom of one compartment being slitted and bent to form a horizontal supporting flange and the front Wall associated with said compartment being provided with an aperture; in combination with a door member supported hingedly adjacent tothe upper edge of said aperture and hav- FRANK BLANOHETT. \Vitnesses W.
