Description

i UNrrED STATESl PANT onirica.
JACOB JULIUS SCHEUCH, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOB TO T'HE WHITE TAR COM- l 'PANY, OF NEW YORK, N." Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
CLOSUR-E FOR MOTHPROOF BAGS.
To all whom *it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAcon JULiLs SGHEUCrn'acitizen of the United States, ref siding at the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures for Mothproof Bags, oit' which the following is a specification. ret erence being had to the accompanying drawn ings.
This invention relates to improvements in bags and particularly to improvements in bags commonly called moth-proof7 bags and used as receptacles in which to store, furs, blankets, articles of clothing and the like in order to keep them free `from dust and to prevent the entrance ot moths.
An object of this invention is the pro@ vision in a bag of the type just referred to of closing means which will be simple in construction, extremely cheap in manufacture and niost'etlicient and durable in use and which will maintain the mouth et the bag securely closed againstr the entrance of dust, moths or the like.
Aln the drawings illustrating the principle of this invention and the best mode now known to ine of applying that principle, Figure l is a .perspective view of so much of a moth-proof bag as is neeessa ry to illus-` trateI my invention, the mouth ot'v the bag being shown open; Fig. 2' is a view similar to' 1, the top llap being shown folded over the mouth of the bag as the latter apthe operation of closing the mouth; Fig. fl is a view similar to lig. L) and illustrates the position of the parts just before the clasp is thrown into locking position; and Fig. 4: is a lview similar .to Figs. 2 and Il and shows the clasp thrown into locking position and the mouth of the bag securely i closed. v
It. will be understood that in the lrawings 'i only oneol the upperI corner portions of the bag is shown and that, the other or opposite, upper corner portion is of the same construction as that illustrated in the drawings.
l 'l`lu` bag n. is formed with a rear or back wall /,a front 'wall o and lateral or side 'walls Il. llaeh of the latter being formed with a fold c, whereby' the bag is madeexpansible. v back wall l; extends above the other portions Specification of Letters Patent.
l'he upper edge. portion of the Patented June 11, 1912.
Application filed November 22, 1911. Serial No. 661,650.
at the i'nouth of the bag and forms a flap b each end ot' which is provided with a hookshaped clasp pivotally fastened thereto. In the first step in closing the bag the flap is folded over the upper edge portion c ot' the front Vall e, as is illustrated in Fig. 2. The mouth portion of t-he bag, including the flap b and the upper edge portion o of the. front wall o are now again folded, at the conclusion of which step the parts are in the position shown in Fig, El. The bag is now locked by throwinglhe free or hook end j ofthe clasp in rear of the back wall oithe bag, as is shown in Fig. l. Thus, any tendei'lcy ofthe mouth portion ofthe bag to unfold and thereby open is resisted by the engagement ot the hook-end of the clasp f with the body portion o'f the bag itself. Ihe lat-ter is made of tlexible [ailier-strich; and it is obvious that the natural tendency ot the'hag to recover its original lshape produces a stress actingupon the free end f ot the clasp fand pressing the base-end thereof against the flap portion /f' so as to lforce the saine into close contact with the. back wall l) of the bag and ell'eetually seal its n'loiith against the entrance of moths, dust and the like. .N bag oli this character is suspended, when tlled and in use, and the pull exerted by the weight of its contentsl serves to bind the clasp firmly in place Fig. d).
l. A bag of the character described having outer front and back walls and having its bottom and longitudinal edgeI [')ortions closed; the mouth edge portions of said outer wallsI being adapted to be. folded upon each other and the mouth edge 'portion ot one of said outer walls heilig provided with a stiff hook pivoted at one end and arrangtal to be thrown downwardly entirely across one o f the longitudinal edge. portions of -the bag, after the mouth edge portions thereof have been folded upon each other7 and to engageone of said outer walls with its free end7 which then' overliesithe lastnarned outer wall, and-thereby totlock the bag in its closed position; the body of the bag below its. folded inout-h edge portions pressing against the free overlying end4 of the 'hook in the locking position ot the latter. f
2. bag of the character described having' front and back outer wallsl and having :teo
its bottom and longitudinal edge port-ions closed; the mouth edge portion of one of said outer walls projecting above the top of the other of said outer Walls and being adapted to fold thereover and thereby to close the mouth of the bag; and e stiff hook which is pivoted at one end upon said projecting mouth edge portion and which is adapted and arranged to be thrown down- Wardly entirely n cross one of the longitudinal edge portions-of the bag and to engage one of said outer Walls With its free end. which then overlies the last-named outer Wall, and thereby to look the bag in` county and State of New York, this 21st 20 day of November, A. D., 1911, in the presence of the two undersigned witnesses.
