Like letters indicate like parts in Veach figure.v Thenature offthe present invention 'relates -to an improved y construction of harness-buckles, and consists in so constructing the same that the draft-strain ofthe loosestrap or tug `willibe equally divided between two studs projecting through it from the buckle, and a--screw-bolt passing through acoveiingplafe, the strap and bodyof the buckle ;i also, in providing the covering-plate with a' slide, which engages with a groove in therneck of thescrewfbolt, and' .prevents Ithe latter from working 4loose-Q Inthe drawings-,- l A represents the body ofv my improved buckle, provided with two studs, a,- in line wit-l1 and equidstant from a central threaded opening, b. The buckle'shown being designed to conucetthe haine-tug audit-race, in addition to the loop c, at one. end, by which the harne- .tug is secured to it, is provided at the other end with a loop, el, to which the breech-,strap is secured.

On the under side of `the plate' a' slide, f, is dove# tailed therein at one side of' the opening b, and is moved rback and forth by a small stud, projecting up l through a slot in the plate.

C is ascrew-bolt, whose threaded. end screws into the central opening in the buckle,'passing through the covering-plate and trace D. v -v In the neck of the bolt is a gi'oo\-'e,-g, int the. edge of the plate or. slide f enters,.the ciiect of which is to prevent the rotation of the bolt.

The loop chas asc-ren' ruiming through the ends of its lugs, and around which screw the loop of the haine-tug is inadeand stitched. If it be desired to remove the buckle,V it may be easily done bytaking ont the screw,\vhcu the buckle is replaced in like manner, without ripping the loop of the llame-tug.

When the buckle is secured, as shown `iu iig. 4, it will bc seen that the draft-strain of the trace is distributed equally between thestuds a and bolt O,

giving three points of resistance, and diminishingthe liability of tearing thetrace at the tongue-hole, .while thc slide'j' prevents the bolt from working loose.

By punching the holes" in the trace ata distance j apart corresponding with the space from the bolt-to the studs, the length ofvtrace is radilyadjusted as circumstances require.

` In ordinary buckles the loopsdandeinay bedis'-l pensed with.

lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 1. lIhe buckle A, and plate B, the former-provided with studs a a, and threaded openings b, and the latter with corresponding openings a', a,and b', and secured together by the bolt G,in.the manner and for the vpurpose set forth.

2. In harness-buckles, the slide in the plate-I3,

andthe groove g in the bolt C, as and for the purpose set forth. y
