To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN A. LAUZON, a citizen of the -.United States, residing at Grand Rapids, county of Kent, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Ovens or Cookers, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to improvements in electric ovens or cookers, and to improvements in such cookers where the heating plates or elements are electrically heated.
- The objects ofthis invention are; First, to provide an improved construction of cover and receptacle for such electric ovens or cookers. Second, to provide improved connections for electrically heating the heating plates of such electric ovens or cookers.
Further objects, and objects relating tov structural details, will definitely-- appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
- Figure 1 is a detail perspective vertical sectional view, through the body of the cooker, the cover being thrown open. Fig; 2 is a detail sectional view through the'up per portion of the cooker and the cover or lid therefor in closed position. ,Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view, showing the details of the electrical connection for heating the lower plate. Fig. 4 is a detail of the cover and body showing the means of insuring a close contact and fit.
In the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Considering the numbered parts of the drawing, the box or main case 1 is sup ported by corner posts 2 and has cross bars 3, which, with the posts, embrace panels 4 at each side. A bottom 5 extends beneath the same. An inner casing, 6, preferably of metal, is separated by suitable insulating or non-conductor material 7 from this outer case. A top 8 connects the inner case 6 to the outer box and is provided with an an nular depression 8', which surrounds the upwardly-projecting rim 6". of the inner shell -6. The rim 6 is formed by seaming thetop plate 8 to the inner receptacle or case 6.
The cover 9 is usually hinged and base slightly projecting cushion 10 near its edge covered over by. the plate 9. The cover therefore contacts with the rim 6 and its outer edge rests with yielding pressure on the plate 8.
The top plate 8 is of metal and is watertight, so that steam arising within the cooker will be condensed and accumulated in'the depression 8',1which prevents the accumulation of moisture within thev casing 6. As the moisture is retained in this depression 8, it can readily be collected by a sponge or dish-cloth.
Resting withinthe bottomgof the case 6 is the heater plate 11, which is heated by a an electric'resistance 12, arranged therein.
The plate is clamped securely in place by the thumb-screw15, as clearly appears in Fig. 3. The conductors 16, forming the circuit, are extended through the insulator material 7 toa switch 17 on the outside of the case 1 toward the top -see Fig. 1.
The top heating plate 18 is retained in place by loops 19 on the under. side of the lid 9. A suitable electric resistance 20 is located in this plateand is provided with suitable perforations for slipping onto the electric connection pins 21, which are on the conductors 22, constituting the electric circuit thereto. These conductors 22 pass to the switch 23 on the top of the lid or cover. It will thus be seen that both the bot-tom plate 11 and the top plate 18 can be electrically'hea-ted, and also that the same are very readily removable so that they can be heated by other means when the electric current is not available.
I desire tofstate that I prefer to make the outer case of my device ofwood and the inner shell 6 of metal, and that the filling 7 is preferably a mixture of corkandasbestos.

necting the said inner shell and outer cas-' 111g, containlng an annular curved depres-' sion, surrounding the upper edge of the said inner casing; a cover for the said cooker having a projecting cushion near its edge with a plate covering the same; a heater plate detachably secured within said heater; resistance within the said plate; electric circuits leading to the said plate; and-slip pin connections between the electric resistance in the-said plate and the said conductor,
whereby the plate can be readily removed, all coacting substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
2. In an electric oven or cooker, the com-- bination of the outer casing; an inner metallic shell; suitable insulating material packing between the same; a top plateconnecting the said inner shell and outer casing, containing an annular curved depression, surroundlng the upper edge of the said inner casing; a cover for the said cooker having a projecting cushion near its edge with a plate covering the same; and a heater plate detachably secured within said heater, all coacting substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
3. In an electric oven or cooker, the com- ,bination of the outer casing; an inner metallic shell; suitable insulating material packing between the same; a top plate'connecting the said inner shell and outer casing, containing an annular curved depression, surrounding the upper edge of the said inner caslng; and a cover for the sa1d cooker .having a projecting cushion near'its edge with -a plate covering the same, all coacting substantially as described andfor the purpose specified.
4. In an electric oven or cooker, the combination of the outer casing; an inner metallic shell; suitable insulating material packing between the same; a cover for the said cooker; a heater plate detachably secured within said heater; resistance within the said plate electric circuits leading to the said plate; electric connection sockets in said plates; and slip pin connections between the electric resistance in thesaid plate and the said conductor'disposed within the receptacle, whereby the plate can be readily removed, all coacting substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
