To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, FRANK H. HARVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dorrance, in the county of Russell and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Filling Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to fountain pens, and has for its object to provide an improved'sfountain pen so constructed and arranged that it may be readily filled with ink.

The'invention forth has for its object to provide an improved fountain pen so constructed and arranged that it may be easily and readily taken apart for cleaning and will not be liable to get out of order.

The fountain pen constructed in accordance with this invention is formed of several sections comprising the tapering pen holding end 1 and tubular section 2 connected to 'thetapering end 1 by means of a screw threaded projection 3 on the tapering end 1 which engages the threaded lower end of the tubular section 2. The pen further consists of a tubular section 4 connected at one end to one end of the tubular section 2 by a screw-threaded joint 5, the other end of the tubular section 4: being closed. Mounted in the casing'formed of these tubular sections is a piston Shaving a piston rod 7 which is detachably connected at its upper end by a -reduced threaded projection 8 with an internally threaded cap 9 having a lateral projeotion l0 projecting through a slot 11 in the section 4- and on the outer end of'which is mounted a strip 12- with'a manipulating 2 and 4. As shown in Figs. 2 and 5 the slot 11 is of such a length as to limit the downward movement of the strip 12 and prevent the piston 6 from being moved above the lower end of the slot 11.

It will be seen that by means of this device a that the casing 2 of thepen may be sup plied with ink by dipping the pointed end of the pen in the ink and taking hold of the head 13 of the strip 12 and moving the latter along the groove 14 until it is brought in contact with the upper end of said groove. By constructing the casing of the pen in sections as hereinbefore described, not only can access be readily had to the casing to clean the same but also thepiston and piston rod may be readily inserted therein and removed therefrom.. This is accomplished strip 12 out of the groove 14:.

The fountain pen constructed in accordance with this invention is simple in construction and can be readily taken apart and put together, and filled with ink.

What I claim is A fountain pen formed with a tapering pen holding'mcmber, a tubular section detachably connected with said member, a second tubular section detachably connected to said tubular section and having a slot in its side, a groove extending longitudinally in the side of the adj accnt ends of said tubular sections and in alinement with said slot, a

strip slidably mounted in said groove, 2. piston and piston rod located in the casing of said pen, and a detachable lateral projection at one end of said piston rod projecting through said slot and connected to said slidable strip.
