deluded i gtst-2a WILLIS D.' WILLIAMS, (on RLEIGLI,- Noirrn CAROLINA. A'
L ettelfs Patent N 102,637, dated May 3, 181.0'.
IMPRovnMENT IN MACHINE son BENDINQWQD.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the yseme.
To all lu 'hom 'it 'mail/.concern Be it known thatl, WILLIS D.l WILLIAMS, of Raleigh, in. the county oi' Wake and State of North Carolina., have invented a new and Improved Felloe- Bending Machine; and 'I` do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear', and exact description thereof,
Vwhich will enable others skilled inthe art to m'ake and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming pax-.tof this specification. I
vided with .'holding devices, a confining strap-ofx `steel ox-ron,'and operating levers, arranged for `attaching the timber and bending it up into a semicircle, all as hereinafter. more fully described.
Figure 1 is a plan -.view of my improved machine,
the dotted`lines showing the open position for 'attaclbjv timber is set suiciently-to remaingin the bent poing the timber, and
Figure 2 is an end elevation, partly-broken. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. A is a strong block of -wood or iron permanentlyattached to a' bed, B, and having a curved face, C,
formed on the radins of the circle of the wheel for which the felloejs designed. v
1t is also provided with other curved blocks, D, one
hingedat each end, and all so shaped und arranged that, when swung up to the closed positionrepresented in ig. 1, the combined curved faces of these blocks will representa semicirole, or so much. of a circle as the timber and the bending-strap by wedges, F, they f also have operating levers, G -H, attached."lhe
to itfor engaging the hook K at theeend of the bend-A M represents guidelplates, to keep the timber and strap on thecurved faeeof the blocks.
The. blocks v`..D,.,.bcing turned back .to the. position represented in ydottedlines,` iig'. 1, the timber N,with the st-lap L, 'is lplaced within the yokes E, as shown, land the link I is engaged ."with-A the hook KQ The .levers G H are then turned up into the position represented infull lines, the wedges F being inserted at the proper' time, confining the'timberat the ends snugly against the faces of the blocks, and finally the holding-strap P is connected to the pins of the blocks Dfor holding them in the closed position until the sition.
By means of these jointed blocks and the bendingthel same vtime without straining the fiber at any one place, the same being snugly coniincd by the strap against the curved faces of the blocks so as to bend evenly.
Having thus described my invention,
'I claim' as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentrlhe combination of the permanent curvedfaced block -A,lcnrved blocks l)v hinged thereto, yokes and levers G H, substantially as specified. a
W. D. WIL'LTAMS.
