Specification of Letters Patent.
Appiicanon ined February a1, 1912. seria1 no. 679,157.
To all whom t may concern: y
Be it known that'I, WILLIAM A. BRYANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at ivetumpka, in the county of Elmore and State of Aiabama, have invented Acertain new and useful Improvements in Button and Drawers Supporters; and I do declare the following to be a1 full, clear, and enact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pin'fasteners, and more especially to the vWire guards therefor; and the objectof the same is to produce a .safety pin. whose spring is by preference elaborated -into a loop for attachment. to the .Suspenders and whose pin pointis held within the guard by a hookshaped latch. This and other objects are accomplished by the construction hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and as shown in the drawings wherein`v Figure 1 is a front elevation of this en tire device showing the pointof the pin as housed within the guard and the catch as engaging the back of the pin. Fig. 2 is a l d iscngaged from both the guard and the catch. Fig. 3 is ancdge view taken from the right side of the devicewith its parts in the position shown in Fig. 2. Fig. .4 is a section on the f lino 4-4 of Fig. l.
made in the form of illustrate, and from .'ln 'the drawingsthe numeral. 1 designates thc springof this improved pin which is usually a -coil butin the present-.place is a loop so that a suspender-enol may be attached thereto in a manner well understood and not necessary to this loop the wiredepends in two `oblique arms. Of these, theV numeral 2 designates the pin proper ,whichextends downward from said .loop and their turns inward or horizontall as shown at 3,A its point 4 being sharpene `The numeral 5 Vdesignates'the shank which also extends downward from the loop vand divergesfroln the pmas shown,- being formed then into a coil or spiral as at 6 toreceive .the point 4,
l. and then extended integrally'across the d enot essential.` y
It will not be necessary in this specifica.
'across behind the first ,poi nt engages 8 at its extremity adapted to engage the pin Vas shown in Figi 1. The device is entirely of one piece of material, preferably rather stout wire which may be apanned or otherwise treated to prevent rust, and the size and proportionof its various members 'are tion to amplify the many uses to which a safety pin of this character may be put. lI have, however, called it a handy button and drawers supporter, for the reason that the loop may well be engaged with a suspenderend and the pin passed through the waist'- hand of the trousers or the waist band ofa pair of drawers, the point of the pin then entering the guard so that the wearer is thoroughly protected and the hook at the extremity of the catch taking over the back of the pin so as to preventy the point from becoming disengaged from the guard and.

a n u c u which 1t is liirciectcd. To disconnect 'it'. the
`pin point is pushed into the guard until the back of the pin can be disconnected from the hook, after which the pin point is drawn out of the guard and out `of the garment as will be clear.
What is claimed as new is:
The herein described pin fastener made of a single piece of spring wire and coml prising a loop, an arm depending obliqucly therefrom and then turned inward. and
pointed at its extremity, and a second arm depending from the loop and diverging from the first arm, then formed into a coil for receiving said point, and thence carried army and hooked at to engage this arm when the the coil, as and for the purits t-xtrcmity pose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presencey of two subscribing witnesses.
