Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27, 1912. Divided and this application filed To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT M. Gnon, of
Attica, W'yoming county, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in manger construction, and the object of my invention is to produce a structure which provides a manger for cattle, of the simplest character, and which is constructed in such a way that the individual partition walls can be tipped or thrown back under the guard rail between the cattle in the stall so as to leave a free space in front of the cattle, which can be very easily cleaned, and thus kept in a sanitary condition without as much trouble as in the case of individual mangers made stationary.
To these ends and with the general idea of making an economical, strong and sanitary construction of the kind described, my invention consists of certain features of construction which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cattle stall and of the manger construction showing my improvements, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same showing the manger partition in position and also tipped back under the stall guard rail.
The front of the stall has a framework 10 and stanchions 11 for securing the cattle, and sill 12 supporting the framework and stanchions. The manger is, as usual, di rectly in front of the frame and sill and can be divided off individually or in pairs, but in practice I find that having the partitions 13 between the adjacent pairs of cattle satisfactory. The manger is made by the partitions 13 which can be made of any suitable material but preferably of sheet metal bound along the edges by a flat steel bar riveted thereto, each partition being pivoted as shown at 14: in Fig. 2 to the frame 10 or the edge may be reinforced by binding it with ordinary channel iron. The partitions are cut away as shown at 15 so as to tit snugly over the sill 12. The partition is braced by the keeper 16 which is sceured to the vertical part of the frame 10 at 17 and to the sill at 18, and between which keeper and the frame the partition 13 can swing. Thus when the manger is to be cleaned, the plate 13 can be tipped back to the position shown by 13-3 in Fig. 2. In this position it is under the stall guard railing 19 which also acts as a shield for the partition.
The structure is provided with the nary drinking tank 90 pipe 21.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that l have provided a verv simple and cheap structure and one which allows of a manger being very easily and quickly cleaned and kept in a sanitary con dition.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-
1. The combination with a stall framework, of a manger partition pivoted in the framework of the stall and adapted to tip forward and divide the manger, and adapted to be tipped back and form a stall partition.
2. The continuation with the framework of a stall, of a plate pivoted in the said framework at" a point between the manger and stall portions so as to tip forward and backward and form a partition either in front of or behind the said framework.
3. The combination with the framework of a stall having a manger extending in front of the said framework, of a partition plate pivoted in the framework and shaped to fit snugly over the framework and against the manger floor so as to form a manger partition, the said partition plate being hung so that it can be tipped backward behind the framework and form a stall partition.
