PAUL szATHMAEY, or CLARENCE, NEW YORK.
CONVEYER FOR MOLTEN METAL.
Specv'cation of Letters Patent. I Patented Feb. 20, 1912.
Applicaton'led'october 30, 1911. Serial No. 657,403.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, PAUL SZATHMRY, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Clarence, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and' useful Improvements in.Conveyers for Molten Metal, of which the following'is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
T h1s invention relates to a conveyer for molten metal, and the. primary object -of ,my invention is the provision of a no vel l"form of c onveyer. for conveying moving .1 Reference-will now V metal from a furnace to a mold within. a
soaking pit.
IAnother object of this invention is to provide la sectional lined conveyer that can be easily and quickly opened and the inte'- rior thereof cleansed. v
A further object of 'provide a stationary trough with a movable cover andto arrange the` trough in a manner that permits of the rapid discharge of the contents of the trough into a series of molds.
With the above and other objects view,` 'the/invention residesY in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of'parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed. f
be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the conveyer, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross sec# tional view of the same.
The reference numeral 1 denotes an elevated furnace of a conventional form, 4the furnace being diagrammatically illustrated owing to the fact that various kinds of furnaces now employed can be used in connection-with my im roved conveyer. Arranged iii ont of the furnace are a plurality of stepped supportsv 2 having the vupper ends thereof provided with heads. 3'
for supportingjthe lowerA semi-cylindrical inclined section 4 of the conveyer.- The section 4 of the conveyer has the longitudinal edgesV thereof provided Awith lateral anges A 5 and secured to said lateralflanges by bolts 6 and;l nuts is a semifcylindrical section or this invention is tov cover 8, the sections4 and 8 cooperating in providing a cylindrical structure. The sections 4 and 8 are lined with a non-fusible material 9, as fire clay or bricks. The section 4 is provided with openings 10 through which extend spouts 11 carried by the lin- 4 ing of the section 4 and made of a material similar to said lining. The' spouts 11 are arranged at the lower end of the conveyer above a soaking pit 12 containing molds 13. Molten metal admitted to -the conveyer from the furnace by the spout 14 `passes downwardly through the conveyer and through theopenings of the spouts 11 into the' .molds 13. 1
Oli account 4of having to renew the non- ,fusible material -9 lining of 'the conveyei,
also on' account of the conveyer not being 'continuously used and crustations forming upony the lining, it is necessary that the section` or cover 8 be removed.' For this urpose a traveling crane 15 is arranged a ove the conveyer, the crane having a Ihoisting `comprising a pair of oppositely disposed*l semicylindrical sections `having longitudi- `naly extending flanges, thefianges of onesection abutting against vthe fianges' `of the other`section thereby Aproviding anelon- `gated hollow cylindrical member, mean s for shiftably connecting'the flanges of one vsection to the-flanges ofthe-other section, said member, when im an operative position' normally dependirlgfatan inclination, s aid lower memberhaving disposed throughout" ortion thereof a series ofthe lower half openings, a" cylindrical non-fusible lining engaging the inner vface f each of said sections and vhaving the lower portion thereof provided "with integral depending' spouts In testimony whereof I affix my signature of -the same material, said spouts communin the presence of two witnesses. eating withhthe llterior;i of tle liring arlxld exten ing t roug and epen ing rom t e 1 5 openings in the lower of seid sections, and PAUL, SZATHMRY' means whereby a, eonveyngg` device een be Witnesses: 'coupled to the upper of said sections for Soos IGNATZ,
transporting said member. rSu'os JOSEF.
