OPEN HARNESS-TUG.

To all whom it may concern:

Be itknown that I, JOHN JOSHUA HAR- \VARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Friendship, in the county of Crockettand State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Open Harness-Tug, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in harness tugs.

The primary object of said invention is to construct an open tug, the ends of which may be readily and conveniently locked together so that a thill may be quickly placed in and removed from the same.

lVit-h the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the tug. Fig. 2 is an edge view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the latch casing.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 10 designates an open loop arranged to receive a thill and also being constructed from leather or the like and reinforced at its opposite ends by curved metallic plates 13 and 14. One end of the loop terminates in a reduced portion 16 to which is hingedly secured the lower bar of a rectangular frame 17, the same being formed from light metal. Operating in conjunction with the frame 17 is a metal casing 18, said casing having flanges 19 by which the same is secured to the other end of the loop 10. It will be noted that the upper edge of the casing 18 is concave and is adapted to receive the upper bar of the frame 17 when the loop is in its operative Specification of Letters Patent.

The casing is further provided with a spring pressed latch member 18', said latch member normally projecting through the lower end of the casing so as to contact with the reduced portion 16 at its point of connection with the frame 17, thereby preventing the accidental displacement of the frame from the casing 18. To open the loop it is only necessary that the latch member be drawn within the casing until the same frees the lower end of the frame, and then by proper manipulation of said frame the upper bar 20 is removed from the concave upper edge of the casing which readily permits the release of a thill.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have produced a device which is simple in construction and one in which a thill may be clasped or removed in a quick and convenient manner.

I claim A fastening device, comprising the combination with a harness tug loop, having one of its ends terminating in areduced portion, of a frame having an upper and lower bar, the lower bar of said frame being hingedly connected to the reduced end portion of the loop, a casing secured to the other end of said loop and having its upper edge concave, the upper bar of said frame being adapted to seat in the concave upper edge of the casing, and a spring pressed latch member carried by the casing to contact with said reduced portion of the loop at its point of connection with the lower bar of the frame.
