To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK G. SI-mMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Tape Holder and Moistener, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to tape holders and moisteners and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of the invention is to provide a holder and moistener of simple structure the holder being adapted toretain a roll of tape in such manner that the tape is not permitted to unroll freely from the saidroll but by reason of the configuration of the holder and the position of the roll therein sufficient tension is pressed and must be overcome be fore the tape may be unrolled from the roll. In combination with the holder a moistener is provided across which the tape is drawn as it is unwound from the roll and as it is the intention to use the present invention in combination with tape provided with a gunnned surface the gummed surface of the said tape is brought into contact with the moistener and is dampened. Upon the moistener is provided a cutting means for severing the tape intosect-ions as it is unwound from theroll and drawn across the moistener.

In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective View of the holder and moistener. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the blank from which the holder is made. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the moistener. Fig. 4t is aplan view, of the blank from which the moistener is formed.

The blank from which the body portion of the holder is formed is illustrated in Fig. 2 and consists of a back portion 1 connected with side portions 2 which are in turn connected with front portions or flaps 3. Then the body is formed the portions 2 are bent up at right angles to the back portion 1 and the portions 3 are bent at right angles The portions 2 are in synclinal relation to each other but are disdonnected from each other save through the back portion 1. which screws or other supporting devices may be passed. The edgesiof the portions 3 at the opposite sides of the back portion 1 are spaced from each other so that there is a channel leading from the upper to the lower end of the back ortion 1 between the side portions 2 and tie front portions 3. The body thus formed is adapted to receive a roll of tape the said roll resting against the inner inclined surfaces of the side portions 2 as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings. By reason of the fact that the portions 2 are in synclinal relation the roll is held at its opposite side portions as between the members of a wedge shaped vise or clamp and thus the roll is prevented from permitting the tape to unwind too freely therefrom. In fact the tape must be drawn in an upward direction to unroll the same from the roll for the reason that the roll must be lifted or partially lifted out of contact with the synclinal surfaces of the body portion 5 and is in spaced relation to the said portion 5 of the blank. When the moistener is formed the side portions 6 are bent at right angles to the back portion 5 and the bottom portion 7 is also bent at right angles to the back portion 5 while the other side portion 8 is bent at a right angle to the bottom portion 7. The portion 9 is inwardly bent as above described and the portion 8 is bent in substantial parallel relation to the back portion 5. The edges of the portions 7 and 8 are secured by solder or other means to the edges of the side portions 6 and the upper ends of the side portions 6 project slightly beyond the upper ends of the back portions 5 and the outside portion 8. Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a holder having synclinal side portions, a moistener formed from a blank of sheet material having a back portion a flap portion substantially parallel with the back portion, side portions with ends which project above the back portion, a bottom portion and a front portion the bottom portion and front portion being secured at their edges to the side portion and a cutting blade mounted upon the upper part of the front portion of the said moistener.

In combination with a holder provided with synclinal sides, a moistener adapted to I edge portion of one of the sides of the holder said moistener also having side portions with ends which project above the back portion, a bottom portion and a front portion the edges of the bottom and front portion being secured to the edges of the said side portion the front portion being provided with an inwardly disposed flange, and absorbent material contained within the moistener and a cutting blade applied to the front portion of the moistener.
