APPARATUS FOR ADMINISTERING MEDICINE TO LIVE STOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 9, 1912.
Application filed September 26, 1911. Serial 1\To'. 651,408.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WVILLIAM A. HOLLI- DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paradise, in the county of Wise and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Administering Medicine to Live Stock; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for administering medicine to live stock and comprises a simple and eificient device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawing which is'a view showing a valve receptacle connected to the pipe for administering a liquid to the animal.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a tube having recesses B formed at one end thereof, whereby the material within the tub-e may make exit laterally through the recesses in the exit end of the tube being held against any object which would prevent the material from passing out of the tube. The tube A has threaded connection with an elbow D.
In the drawing I have shown the tube A having threaded connection with an elbow D, and F designates a funnel-shaped receptacle which has threaded connection with the elbow -D in place of the mouth-piece E. Said receptacle has a flanged cover H with a plug K fitted in an opening therein, and
N designates a valve adapted to seat against a beveled surface about the lower marginal edge of the opening in the plug, said valve having fingers O which extend through the plug and engage over the marginal edges of the outer end of the aperture therein to limit the movement of the valve in one direction.
In the operation of the apparatus the medicine to be administered is placed in the receptacle F and the latter turned up side down or in the position shown in dotted lines, the weight of the liquid holding the valve seated. The tube is inserted in the throat of the animal when the receptacle is inverted, thereby preventing any of the liquid flowing out of the exit end of the tube until the tube is adjusted in place and the receptacle swung to an upright position, after which the liquid is allowed to run by gravity and the aperture in the plug serving as a vent as the valve is automatically opened by gravity.
What I claim to be new is A device for administering medicine consisting of a tube having an open end, the walls of which are slotted, an elbow with which said tube has threaded connection, a funnel-shaped receptacle having threaded connection with the elbow, a flanged cap fitted over the receptacle and having an opening therein, an apertured plug seated in said opening, the inner end of the plug being beveled about the opening therein, forming a valve seat, a valve, a finger extending through the openings of the plug and engaging theouter end of the latter, as
set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
