IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR FOLDING PAPER BAG-S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part cf the same I, GAVIN J. Mormrnof the city of Brooklyn, in
.the State of New York, have invented certain improvements iu Machines for Making Paper Bags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to contrivances for quick folding and pressing the paper, already pasted, into the desired form of a bag.
In the accompanying drawings A A are bed pieces screwed fast to bench or table.
Bis a platen'of thin metal, or equivalent, of the width and length of the required bag, secured to the flap C, and hinged to the bed-piece A.
D and E are flaps hinged to the sides of bed-piece A.
F is a flap hinged to the end of the bed-piece.
.On the end of D and E isattached a piece of thin metal, bent at right angles to form holds to turn the flaps on and off the bed-piece with facility. The edges of these pieces at 0 project sufliciently for creasing the paper at the bottom of the bag, when the flaps D and E are pressed down upon; it, insuring the bottom to turn over square when the end flap F is turned over upon it to form the bottom of the bag.
A piece of paper out and pasted is laid upon the bed-'pieee-A, and extends over the flaps. and treadle the platen B is by the foot pressed on the paper, the flaps D and E are by hand turned on and oh", and the end flap E is also turned and pressed.
On removing the foot, the spring G lifts the platen with the bag upon it, which is removed therefrom, and the same operations are repeated.
Itwill be seen that the end flap F is hinged to the 7 sides of the lied-piece A by pivots on a line with its inner edge.
What I claim and desire to secure is- The combination of the bed-pieces A A platen B, spring G, with the end flap F, and creasing edges e, when constructed, combined, and arranged in the manner and for the purpose hereinahove set forth.
G. J. MOFFA'IT.
