To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHEM I. SAPHiLOFF, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Bronx, New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skin-Cleansers, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to dermatological instruments, and has for its object to provide an improved device of this character which will operate in a thorough and effective manner to cleanse the skin and remove all blemishes such as blackheads, pimples, and blotches thereform.

The invention further contemplates a skin cleansing instrument which can be used without pain, which will not injure the most tender skin, and which will collect and carry away the impurities as they are'taken from the skin.

With these and other objects'in view,'the invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof-being pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a skin cleansing instrument constructed in ac cordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, the frame and roller at one end of the handle being shown in section and one of the tweezer members being removed. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the instrument, and Fig. 4: is a plan View of one end of the handle, the tweezer members being moved into operative position.

Specifically describing the present embodiment of the invention, the numeral 1. designates the handle of the instrument, the said handle being shaped so as to be firmly gripped by the operator during the manipulation of the device. One end of the handle terminates in a knife formed with I handle.

In a reverse manner, when it is desired to use the tweezer members, the clamping screw 5 is moved to the outer end of the slot 4 and then tightened so as to hold the tweezer members securely in operative position.

The opposite end of the handle 1 is pro vided with a frame which is arranged at a slight angle thereto and is composed of a fork or yoke member 10 the ends of which are turned downwardly and connected by a cross bar 11. A roller 12 is journaled between the downwardly turned ends of the fork 10 and is arranged parallel to and slightly spaced from the cross bar 11. This roller is of such a size as to extend downwardly. and substantially flush with the lower edge of the cross bar 11, and is designed to receive the impurities extracted from the skin and deliver them to a depressed plate 13 which is arranged in the crotch of the fork 10 at the top thereof. The cross bar 11 isthe essential part of the instrument and has the edges thereof rounded so that it will not injure the most delicate skin.

In the usual operation of the instrument the cross bar 11 is placed against the skin so as to cause more or less depression, and is then manipulated so as to draw and work out all the substances and dirt from the skin. These impurities which are drawn out of the skin by means of the cross bar 11 are then collected by the roller 12 which delivers them into the depressed plate or pan 13 from which they can be readily removed. It will thus be obvious that the cross bar 11 is used for removing the blackheads and other impurities from the skin, and that after the said cross bar has suc cessfully performed its function, the roller 12 is brought into operation for collecting the impurities and discharging them into the depressed plate. If found desirable, ,the

skin may be steamed in any suitable manner so as to open the pores before applying the instrument, and this may be very beneficial where the blemishes extend deeply into the skin. However, this steaming is not absolutely essential with my instrument, and the same may be employed to advantage where the steaming is omitted. Under some circumstances the point 3 may be used to open the pores, care being taken not to hurt or injure the flesh, and where a blemish is rather pronounced the cross bar 11 will be worked toward the blemish from all directions so as to completely encircle the same before applying the roller.

From the foregoing description, it will be obvious that I have invented a skin cleansing instrument which will not injure a delicate and tender skin and which will operate in a quick and effective manner to thoroughly remove all impurities therefrom.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a skin cleanser, the combination of a handle, a frame carried by the handle and comprising a fork having the arms thereof connected by a cross bar, a roller journaled between the arms of the fork and arranged substantially parallel to the cross bar, the said roller being slightly spaced from the cross bar and the bottom of the roller being substantially flush with the bottom of the cross bar when the device is in use, and a plate fitted in the crotch of the fork for receiving the impurities from the roller.

2. In a skin cleanser, the combination of a handle, a frame carried by the handle and comprising a fork having the arms thereof connected by a cross bar which is offset from the plane of the fork, a roller journaled be tween the arms of the fork and arranged in cooperative relation to the cross bar, and a plate fitted in the crotch of the fork and receiving the impurities from the roller.

3. In a skin cleanser, the combination of a handle, a frame carried by the handle and arranged at an angle thereto, the said frame comprising a fork having the arms thereof connected by a cross bar which is offset from the plane of the fork, a roller ournaled between the arms of the fork and slightly spaced from the cross bar, and a dished plate fitted in the crotch of the fork and receiving the impurities from the roller.
