ELI O. ENBYSK, OF PENDLETON, OREGON.
. REINS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1911.
Application filed July 8, 1911. Serial No. 637,409.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELI C. ENBYSK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pendleton, in the county of Umatilla and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in driving reins and more particularly to a pair of driving reins adapted for use in driving a team of six or eight horses, more or less can be used if desired.
Another object is to provide reins whereby the cross lines can be readily adjusted backward and forward and said cross lines can be easily hooked to or unhooked from the main lines when so desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide driving reins which will possess advantages in points of efficiency, dura bility, is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and in the combi nation and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which the figure is a plan view showing the manner of applying a pair of reins in the improved manner.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates the main lines and adjustably secured to the main lines by means of the buckles 2 are the small attaching straps 3, having the rings 4 secured in the outer end thereof, said straps being secured to the main lines at an equal distance apart.
Detachably secured to the straps 8 by means of the snap hooks 5 are the bit straps 6 extending upon opposite sides of the main line and adapted to be secured to the horses of the rear and intermediate teams, one of said straps being adjustably connected to the other by means of the buckle 7.
Secured to the outer ends of the main lines are the rings 8 to which are detachably secured the bit straps 9, which are attached to the leader team, said straps being adjustable and detachably secured to the ends of the lines by means of the snap hooks 10.
It will be readilv seen in the drawing and from the description that by the arrangement of the bit straps as herein shown and described, that a pull upon either the right or left line will turn all the horses in the direction of the pull.
While I have shown and described the preferred construction of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
In a pair of driving reins, the combination of the main lines, of attaching straps adjustably secured to said main lines and disposed at equal distances apart, of bit straps detachably secured to the ends of said attaching straps and extending upon opposite sides of the main line and secured to the horses of the rear and intermediate teams, one of said bit straps being adjustably connected to the other, rings secured in the outer ends of the main lines, bit straps detachably secured thereto, said straps being adjustable and secured to the leader team.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
