JOSEPH UBBINK, OF PORT WASHINGTON, WISCONSIN.
SIDEWALK-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 14, 1911.
Application filed March 24, 1910. Serial No. 551,262.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH UBBINK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Port Washington, in the county-of Ozaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sidewalk-Forms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in What is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide simple, economical and efficient knockdown forms in which to mold sidewalks of plastic paving material, provision being had for varying the dimensions of selections of the sidewalks from which the forms are removed while the paving material is still somewhat plastic.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a perspective view of a set-up sidewalk form in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a transverse section view of the same, the cross-member in this view being partly broken away; Fig. 3, a side elevation of a longitudinal member of the form, and Fig; a detail sectional view on the plane indicated by line 44 in Fig. 3.
Referring by letter to the drawings, 5 indi' cates each of a pair of longitudinal members and 6 each of a series of transverse members of a sidewalk form according to my invention. Each longitudinal member is of approximately right-angle contour in crosssection being preferably made by suitable bending of a primarily fiat strip of sheetsteel crossed notched from one edge thereof at predetermined intervals, the notched portion of said member being vertical in practice. The horizontal portion or flange of each longitudinal member of the form extends outward and is rested on the ground u on which the sidewalk is to be laid. Each of the transverse members of the form is a fiat strip of sheet-steel or other suitable material crossed notched from one edge thereof at predetermined intervals of its length, and upper corner eyes 7 are provided in each transverse member of said form.
In a set-up form, notches of the longitudinal members are engaged by the transverse members and a pair of notches of each transverse member are engaged by said longitudinal members, the depth of the notches being such that the upper edge: of all the members are flush and the lower cc gels of the aforesaid transverse members at rest upon the outer horizontal flanges of the aforesaid longitudinal members. To aflord clearance for the bends of the longitudnal members of the form, the mouths of the notches in the transverse members of said form are beveled upon one side. By no :ching the members of the form as herein sh nvn anddescribed provision is had for vary ing the dimensions of the compartments in said form. At their ends, the vertical port: ons of the longitudinal members of the form may be outwardly provided with longitudinal bolt-lugs 8 and keepers 9 for the engzgement of similar devices of like forms when desirable.
In practice stakes may be employed to hold the sidewalk form in place upon the ground to be paved. The compartments of the set-up form are filled with the paving material, in a plastic state, and thereafter, before said material is full set, the transverse members of said form are lifted out by means of hooks caught in the eyes 7 with which each of said members is provided. Afterward the longitudinal mem bers of the form are removed, a section of sidewalk being then completed. \Vhile the paving material is setting in one form, another form may be set up as a continuation of the one aforesaid, and so on for the whole length of a sidewalk.
I claim:
1. A removable sidewalk form comprising longitudinal members of approximately right-angle contour in cross-section, and flat transverse members having separable ir terlocking engagement with the vertical gortions of the longitudinal members torest upon the outwardly disposed horizontal flange portions of the same.
2. Aknock-down form for concrete work consisting of side rails provided with outwardly extending flanges along their lcwer edges and with notches in their upper edges extending toward said flanges, division plates provided with notches in their 1c wer edges and so proportioned that the division ington, in the county of Ozaukee and State plates may at their notched portions fit of WVisoonsin, in the presence of two witinto the notches of the side rails and be nesses.
supported at the ends upon the flanges of JOSEPH UBBINK. 5 the side rails. Witnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing HARRY W. BoLENs, I have hereunto set my hand at Port Wash- T. A. BOERNER.
