Description
f 'EDGAR sind w It. HALLAND WILLIAM H.. TOWN, or sYItAoUsn, New YORK, sAID HALL AssIeNs 'HIS RIGHT To SAID Town.
' Leners Patent No. 100,753, dated Mai-c1. I5, 1370.
IMPROVEMNT IN DEVICE ron OPERATING CHURNS.
The Schedule Iefen-ed t in these Letters .Patent and making part of the same;
`To all whom 'it may concerm` Be it known that we, EDGAH"R HALL and W11.-
f LIAM H. TOWN, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga,`and Siate oi' New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Operating Churns; and we do hereby declare the following to be va full,` clear, 'and exact description of the construction I and operation of the same, reference ,being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification.
To enable others to make and use our invention, we will proceed Ito describe its `construction and operation.
The nature of our invention consists n1 the combination and arrangement ofthe several parts ofthe machine l'or operating churns, as hereinafter fully described. I
In constructing our iuvention,"make` the wooden frame A, having yupright posts A', between which a rock-shaft, C, is placed to support the arm D, which are connected to the swivelsE by the pins` G. These swivels hold around the `neck at tbeupper end of the dash-handle P', I E
wThe dash-handles pass loosely through the hubs H,
. 4,which are attached to the frame at I by the set-` screws J. I f
Onithe top of the` hubs rest the loose pulleys K,
which are `grooved on the edge to' receive 'the cord-R. 0n the crank-shalt N' is the double-grooved,pulley A N,.around which the cords R pass from the loose pulleys K.
` The cords R are made of elastiomatcrial.
The pitinan L is connected lat its upper end tothe arm T by the pin U,and at itsIlower end to the double crank .V
The operation of thedevice is as follows: By turning the handcrank W thewhole is' set in motion. I I
machine I By the pitman L and arm T, the rock-shaft is op erated, and an up-,and-dowu motion communicated to the churn-dashers P.
` By the pulleys andy cords the dashers l? are made to revolve at the same time that they are under the up-a-nd-down motion.
. The loose pulleys K have a small pin, X, projecting inwardly and into the grooves Y in the dash-handles P', by which the dash is made to revolve.
The extent of motion iu the dasher may be adjnsted to suit a large or small amount of cream in a l I churn, by ,shifting the attachment of the swivels E to the armsD, and, at the same time, shifting the po sition' of the hubs H toward or from the center of the machine by means of the set-screw J.
The elasticity of the cords B. adapting their length to the position of the pulleys Kl and hubs H.
rl.he device being double, is intended either,` for operating one o r two churns by the dashers P, and by giving both a' revolving and an up-and-down motion to the dashers, the churning is accomplished far more Witnesses: A I
EDWIN S. JENNEY, It. F. STEVENS.
