Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, CHARLES E. SIGLE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Findlay, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Operating Means, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a drawer operating mechanism, and is particularly adapted for use as an attachment for large ovens, such ovens for example, as are used for baking foundry cores. But it will be understood that the use of this invention is not limited to an oven of any particular type, a core oven being herein shown merely for the purpose of illustrating the utility of my mechanism.
Figure I is a vertical section, partly in side elevation, showing the drawer or shelf operating device in connection with a core oven. Fig. II is an enlarged side elevation of the lifting device. Fig. III is a plan view of the parts shown in Fig. II.
In the accompanying drawings: A indicates an oven which may be heated in any suitable manner, but is preferably provided with an inlet duct 1 that communicates with a hot air chamber 2.

The oven shelves which support the cores are in the form of drawers 5 having extensions at their rear ends that rest on the journals of wheels 6, said wheels being mounted on tracks 7. The front wall 5 of each drawer 5 constitutes a closure for an opening in the front wall of the oven and is provided with a lug 8 which cooperates with my lifting device B.
It will be understood that the front end of the drawers normally rest on and frictionally engage portions of the front wall of the oven. To open a drawer for the purpose of removing the contents thereof, it is necessary to lift the front end of the drawer, move it outwardly, and retain it in an elevated position during this movement.
The means for lifting and supporting the drawers comprises a movable carriage C having wheels 9 operable on an overhead track 10 which extends forwardly above the front wall of the oven and is connected to the rear wall thereof by a bolt 11. A pendant bar 12 hasits upper end secured to the frame 13 which forms a bearing for the journals of the wheels 9 of the carriage C.
14 indicates a vertically movable collar slidably mounted on the pendant bar 12 and adapted to be locked at different elevations by a pin 15 which may be inserted in any of the apertures 15 in the bar 12. The pin 15 is preferably secured to the collar 14 by a chain 16. A lever 17 is pivoted at 18 to the collar 14 and has a hook shaped finger 18 that is adapted to engage the under side of any one of the lugs 8 on the drawers 5.
To slide one of the drawers outwardly as shown in Fig. I, the first step is to move the carriage C and pendant bar 12 to a point adjacent the front wall of the oven, then adjust the collar 14; to a position opposite the drawer it is desired to move, and thereafter operate the lever 17 so as to cause it to engage the lug 8 and elevate the front end of the drawer. When the lever 17 is in the latter position, it supports the front end of the drawer and is locked by a weighted dog 19 which engages a shoulder 20 on the lever, said dog being pivoted at 21 to the collar 14:. After the parts are adjusted to the position just described, the drawer is supported by the wheels 6 and 9, and it may therefore be very easily moved to any desired position.
