Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911 Application filed November 15 1910. Serial No. 592,481.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD R. STEEL, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Dispensing-Bottles and Coolers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined dispensing bottle and cooler, the object of the invention being to provide a bottle with a centrally located ice chamber whose walls are wholly spaced from the outer walls of the receptacle so as to form a chamber for the water or beverage to be dispensed, the central chamber being designed to hold the ice out of direct contact with that liquid which is to be refrigerated.
Another object of the invention is to provide in the combined bottle and cooler receptacle designed to fit the central chamber and arranged for the reception of the ice, the top of the receptacle being provided with a relatively broad supporting portion which bears directly upon the bottom of the bottle so as to relieve to a great extent strain on the ice chamber, incident to the weight of the ice.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved form of faucet connection for the bottle which can be conveniently attached to or removed from the bottle.
In the drawing, the figure represents a vertical section of the combined bottle and cooler, parts being shown in full lines.
The combined bottle and cooler 1 is formed with a central refrigerant chamber 2 which is connected with one end of the bottle and which has its opposite end closed, as at 3, and spaced from the wall a of the bottle for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The walls of the chamber 2 are spaced from the walls 5 of the bottle so as to form a chamber A which entirely surrounds the chamber 2, the said chamber A being designed for the reception of the beverage or water. Immediately in line with the bottom 3 of the chamber 2 the wall at of the bottle is formed to provide a neck 6 to which is cemented an exteriorly threaded collar 7. This collar, at one end is formed to provide a plurality of radial lugs 8 which fit in correspondingly formed notches 9 in the neck of the bottle. These lugs serve as a means in addition to cement to hold the sleeve 7 against any possiblerotation or displacement from the neck. The said exteriorly threaded sleeve 7 fits the correspondingly threaded socket 10 in a socket member 11. The socket member is formed with an annular shoulder 12 against which is seated a gasket 13 which is adapted to bear against the edge of the neck 6 so as to seal the joint between the socket member and neck respectively to prevent leakage. The socket member has formed on the shoulder portion 12 thereof a depending interiorly threaded neck 14 to which the exteriorly threaded portion 15 of the faucet 16 is fitted.
In the wall 17 of the bottle is formed an opening 18 in which is removably fitted a vent cap 19 having suitable perforations 20 therein so as to allow for the required introduction of air on the displacement of the liquid from the chamber A.
An ice receptacle 21 of a form conforming substantially in configuration with that of the chamber 2 is removably fitted in the chamber, being substantially coextensive therewith and having a bottom 22 which bears substantially against the bottom 3 of the ice chamber when the receptacle 21 is operatively associated therein. The bottom of the receptacle 21 is formed with an inwardly extending offset portion 23 which is embraced by and secured to the flange 2a of the bottom 22. Solder or any well known fastening means may be employed for securing the flange 2 1 of the bottom to the oifset portion 23.
With a view of preventing the full weight of the receptacle 21 and the contents thereof from being applied wholly to the bottom 8 of the refrigerating chamber, I provide the said receptacle at the open end thereof with ,a substantially disk-like support 25 which bears directly against the wall 17 when the receptacle 21 is fitted in the chamber. In this construction it will be seen that the weight of the receptacle 21 and the contents thereof will not be wholly applied to the bottom 3 but will be partly taken up thereby and partly by the wall 17 of the bottle. At the center, the support 25 is formed with a depending flange 26 which is soldered or otherwise secured in any suitable well known manner to the receptacle 21. The support 25 is formed with an upwardly extended outer portion 27 whose edge portion is curled or formed to provide a bead 28. The angle of the portion 27 serving to hold the head 28 sufiiciently spaced from the wall 17 of the bottle so as to provide for the perfect manipulation thereof and to permit the operator to readily grasp it by the hand when it is desired to remove the receptacle 21 from the refrigerant chamber of the bottle. The open end of the receptacle 21 has a cover 29 removably fitted thereto, and as shown, this cover comprises a top disk 30, a bottom disk 31 which is spaced from the top disk, and a surrounding wall 82 which is secured to the disks 30 and 31 respectively. The disks 30 and 31 are spaced apart and insulated from each other by cork or other suitable nonheat conducting material 83. The cover is provided with a suitable handle 34'. The bottle is preferably formed of glass with a view of enabling one to readily view its contents, but it will of course be understood that it may be made of porcelain or any other such Well known material wherein a bottle of this character can be kept in a most sanitary condition. By removably fitting the vent cap 19 in the opening lS-it may be removed at the convenience of the operator to permit filling of the bottle.
I claim 1. In a combined bottle and cooler, a bottle having an ice chamber therein whose bottom is disposed in spaced relation to one end of the bottle, the said bottle having a discharge opening therein, an ice receptacle removably fitted in the chamber, a closure rcmovably fitted to the receptacle, and a support secured to the closure end of the receptacle and having a portion bearing directly against one end of the bottle and having a portion offset from the bottle.
2. A Water cooler comprising a bottle having a discharge opening at one end, the bottle having a filling opening at its opposite end, the said bottle being formed to provide an elongated longitudinal chamber arranged centrally of the bottle and in line with the first named opening, a receptacle removably fitting the chamber, a cover for the receptacle, a support carried by the receptacle and resting against one end of the bottle when the receptacle is arranged in the chamber, and a manipulating portion formed on the support and spaced from the end wall of the bottle.
3. A. bottle having a chamber therein, an ice receptacle removably mounted in the chamber, a support carried by the receptacle and bearing against one end of the bottle, the said support having its outer portion extended upwardly at an angle to the end wall of the bottle and formed to provide a bead, and a cover removably fitting the receptacle.
